I don't get people saying it's ugly, it's absolutely the same design as the actual PS3 just slimmer and with a black mat finish for the casing and glossy black instead of the chrom.

@ Kowenicki I know what your saying the loss from this potential cut would give them big problems financially, Over a billion is scary territory in this economy, but they cant just keep plodding along at their current rate they need to act.

Whille I understand MS game division is profitable, their hardware are at incredibly low prices. I have no idea how far the arcade can drop in price and not cost them too much. Surely (no idea lol) its possible to lower prices when they have hardware revisions like a slim.

I think this slim if releasing this year HAS to lower costs significantly enough to allow for a price cut especially hearing that they are expecting 13m sold. E3 will hopefully answer this

I don't think it's true, as Sony really doesn't have to money to spend manufacturing a whole new PS3 model. If this is in the works, the earliest we'll see it is at net years E3. If it is true and Sony can get it out before the holiday at a $299 price, it would definitely sell like hotcakes, but they still wouldn't pass the XBox 360 or Wii in sales in 2009. I would expect that M$ would knock off at least $50 on all their XBox 360's in the process.

no im not... but i will say that a lot of PS exclusives are on their way and those cost money.... so its not only the hardware that was pesponcible for the loss... when that starts selling that will make up some of the cost rite there...

Im saying that its posible thats a slim model can come out, which will increase sales and give them profits from software sales and other things.... r u saying its not posible... or r u saying that its possible but it will not be good for Sony... or r u saying that steak > chicken?

See, everybody complains about the surface of the PS3 and how it attracts dust and scratches.... but any change is ugly? :P

Anyway, this will be interesting to see if they really are planning something like this or not.

Assuming that hideously ugly cheap-looking monstrosity is real, I think the PS3 Slim will lead to at least 13 million PS3's sold this year, in line with Sony's expectations. Probably more depending on GT5/FF13's release dates, maybe 15 million. I'd guess the PS3/360 gap could go down to 4 million before MS's next price cut or 360 Slim.
