Forums - Gaming Discussion - I find it disgraceful which console a game is on affects the opinions of it

The recent postings regarding Ghostbusters nailed down my frustration point with fanboys, regarding the impact of which system a game is on affecting the opinion of it.

Ghostbusters was generally looked at as a potentially real good title, that people were eager to get ahold of.  But, now it looks like (at least in Europe) it is at least a time exclusive for the PS3, out of the woodwork comes, "Well, what do you expect from a movie title?  It is goint to suck".  And NOW piled on bashing of how it is going to suck.  EXCUSE ME!

Oh, there are other examples to.  One of them has to do with Final Fantasy XIII.  Guess which version is now discussed and hyped up, because regular Final Fantasy XIII is also on the 360?  It is Vs version of it.  That game is hyped up as all that, and a bag of chips.  Now, let's guess what the buzz would be if the regular Final Fantasy XIII didn't go on the 360?  Yes, normal Final Fantasy XIII.  So, the fact that Final Fantasy XIII is now multiplatform, it isn't going to be discussed.  Only Vs XIII will be hyped up, because it is a PS3 exclusive (as of this moment.  If the 360 gets it, look for it to get trashed).  Oh, sorry, the fact that regular Final Fantasy XIII got an exclusive PS3 demo for it... in Japan, is now why the game gets hyped up.  But, it will soon fade to the talk of how Vs XIII will be all that (because it isn't on the 360).

And then there is also the game being on the 360 and the PC.  A game gets trashed as "it doesn't count on the 360 as to which console reigns supreme!"  Because everyone is supposed to own a high end PC gaming rig, that is what counts?

Oh, let me also bring in some Wii bashing while I am at it here.  In this bit of utter disgracefulness, anything that is Wii exclusive, and might cater to less hardcore videogame players, is mocked and made fun of.  Carnival Games is seen as a blight on humanity.  And this is sickening.  Do I have to bring up the mocking of the walking program Nintendo is coming out?  It is a program to motivate people to walk.  It fits into the Spanish Tutor program as something to help improve their lives.

And then there is the making every single blasted release to Gamestop that is a exclusive, some sort of taunt item of awesomeness.  I can't believe, for example, some people hyped up Velvet Assassin as it is supposed to be all that.  It was even used as a smackdown against inFAMOUS.  Come on.  This is pathetic.

I find this posting behavior disgraceful, arguably VERY disgraceful.  Maybe it is in the keeping with being fanboys, but I have to say enough is enough.   A game is good or bad, irregardless of what system it is on.  If a game is PC and a single console, then it is another notch for the console, if the game is good.  And games deserve praise or knocking, irregardless of the consoles.

Anyhow, I have had enough of this behavior, but I sigh knowing it will continue ON AND ON AND ON, so long as fanboys will be fanboys.  In this world, games aren't just things to be enjoyed, but weapons of war to win the massives over so you can feel superior that more people bought you console then the competitor's.  As if Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo coming out on top is something that impacts your life in a BIG way.  Do any of these companies send you any nice personal goodies if they win, because you are such a fanboy for them?

you are very angry. People get mad at everything. I wouldn't worry about it. most of the time the argument blows over. That or a person gains an archrival. either way.

It was more of myself, trying to being an equal opportunity tiradist to be balanced.  And yes, blast it, I AM defending the Birthday game.  For MYSELF, it would be BEYOND LAME.  BUT, I see others having a use for it.

I generally agree with you and it goes hand in hand with my complaints about gaming journalism, games are games and should be judged on their merits not on which system you play them.

However using the Ghostbusters example i think some people were just frustrated by the announcement and attempting to minimise their disappointment by trying to convince themselves the game was going to be crap. If the game is good i'm sure they'll end up playing/buying it anyway, just several months later.

In the area of being videogame fans, I would state a LARGE percentage of discussion on games, is all rationalization in defense of system loyalty that goes beyond the game for its own sake.  The game is ammo in a console war.

I hope you never get into cars or move to Europe and get into soccer.

Peeps get their teeth kicked in for saying the wrong stuff.

lol what does that have to do with anything...that applies to everything everywhere.

And are you implying that he is wrong?

I totally agree though...fanboys are rather pathetic...don't hate a game just because it turns multiplat or turns out to be a timed exclusive....

when it comes to multi plats, everybody knows they are second class to exclusives thats not a recent thing thats always happened, but i guess your examples are a different story...

Personally, I don't think it's going to be a bad game, I'm just upset that I'll now have to wait longer for the Wii version, which I'm anticipating much more.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
