Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yahoo: The 'Wii Crash' of 2009

Gamerace said:
However, if mainstream papers start proclaiming this, Casuals may listen and you have a self-fulfilling prophecy. Nintendo may not have the luxury of waiting until June and E3 for Wii Motion Plus, Wii Sports Resort to re-invigorate interest.

I doubt the so-called "casuals" you mention would even be on the net reading this stuff.  The people who hate that the Wii is successful despite it not having their support are the people writing these types of articles - as evidenced by the cherry-picked statistics, reliance on disproven arguments, and general lack of substance.

These articles don't even reach the "casual" audience, it only reaches us... the folks on forums who take the time out to discuss it.

Trust - this will all blow over just like it did last year and no one will even remember these articles a couple of months from now.

Given the popularity of the original Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort should generate massive reaction.

As for Wii Motion Plus, hopefully it will do what the DS lite and DSi do for DS sales.

Who cares if the Wii fails or whatever other system fails. PS3 is in 3rd place & I'm still getting good games to play. And the Wii while it doesn't have many games I like it's still a good system to play with friends or to play games that aren't on the PS3.

According to Bloomberg Wii sales have dipped 17 percent year-on-year in the US, and this has led to Nintendo shares falling seven percent.

I would really like to know where they get this stat. I guess it's a reference to March 2008 NPD sales versus March 2009 NPS? Still, the quote makes it sound like Wii sales are down for the entire year, when in fact Wii had not only its best Q1 in the US yet, it had the best Q1 of any video game system in the history of the American market, ever. I think the Gamasutra chart is approprite to mention here:

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

^^^ Like Snake612 would say, "adsactly" is quite pathetic.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

@ Sulla: You're right.  They're saying it dropped YoY, meaning last March it sold better - of course, the author conveniently ignored the fact that March '08 had SSBB, included Easter, and was a 5 week period.

Also, Wii sales are up YTD 2009 over YTD 2008:

Jan 2008 - 274,000 / Jan 2009 - 679,200 + 405,200 units
Feb 2008 - 432,000 / Feb 2009 - 753,000 + 321,000 units
Mar 2008 - 721,000 / Mar 2009 - 601,000 - 120,000 units

2008 YTD through March = 1,427,000 units
2009 YTD through March = 2,033,200 units

2009 YTD > 2009 YTD through March by 606,200 units (according to NPD)

I think this is all the process of being the best selling console right now. people are ALWAYS waiting in the wings to knock the one on top down. Even with logic that is borderline buffoonery.

...I mean an HD Wii with the same games(His words paraphrased), but high def would make a difference?

*shakes head*

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?
