I don't even know why we bother replying to threads like this all the time. Its a constant back and forward battle between the two consols and all these times the disputes aint settled.

Sony is a year behind Microsoft with the PS3 but has managed to sell more in its two years release than what the Xbox360 sold in its first two years so Sony wins there. But Xbox fanboys ain't happy about this so they say total sales without the early release really only matters and sony looses because they should have put there consol out there earlier if they wanted a fair fight.

Its all rediculous.Any smart person can see Sony is selling the most and in economic times like this it still manages to stay very close to Xbox 360 sales. But alot of fanboys out there refuse to look at this and continue making threads about how the ps3 sucks and how microsoft has sold more.Which is very arrogant if you ask me

And any smart person here would note you are wrong.  PS3 vs X360 only.

Winning either way by just a few million is irrelevant anyway and in no way indicates quality so you are correct on those points but don't toss in a falsification in the middle of it like you did.

Well I presumed everyone would know I'm talking about Xbox 360 vs PS3 sales giving the title of the thread.

You missed the point.  It wasn't that it's X360 vs PS3 only but that Sony is not selling the most as you claimed.

From what I remember the 360 has about 6 million copies sold before PS3 came out so that'd leave the 360 in lead by 2 million if they sold at the same time.

Pretty close.  It was a gap of 5.5 million which is now 8.1 million.   Therefore since the PS3 launched the X360 has outsold it by 2.6 million units.

See this is exactly my point its just a forth and back arguement all the time. This will never be settled until the 2 consols are last gen and both have stopped selling.Any smart person would see that PS3 is selling more consols than the Xbox 360 on a timeline basis-something i should have pointed out in my last post even though i mention it in it but as i say Xbox fanboys are so arrogant

Anyway any smart person can just go here

  http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&weeks=170

and see what the article in the original thread was saying and what i've been saying for months now.But yet again i have to say this again Xbox fanboys are to arrogant to accept this so that chart really doesn't matter.

Now taking this from the chart which is factual evidence about the sales.PS3 has sold 21.57 million units since it first launched while in the same timeframe Xbox 360 managed to sell 18 million units giving PS3 a 3.5 million lead on Xbox 360 so can yous please look at the chart and see for yourselfs and anyone who doesn't accept what the chart says will now be classing themselfs as the arrogant people i've been talking about

If you look at the sales since the ps3 launced (not aligned since launch) you will find the 360 has sold more

For one, I'm not an X360 fanboy.  Yet again you're using an alignment that is irrelevant.   The question is,  "So who really has sold more consoles? Sony or Microsoft?"   An alignment like the one you're championing has no relevancy to the posed query.

Since the X360 launched, since the PS3 launched, since 2007, since 2008, since 2009, since last month, since last week....X360 has sold more.

The only reason we go back and forth is because Sony fans continue to utilize the irrelevant aligned launch as a means to suggest PS3 has magically sold more units.   Yes, the PS3 has sold more units given the same sales timeline but that's a theoretical alignment and not an emprically applied timeline.

I agree with the article we cannot compare two consoles that had different release dates and also prices. We will get lots of estimations and assumptions as to what if they had been released at the same time. and what if they had the same price.

Thats a math I really dont have time to do.

So I 'll settle with what Vgchartz is showing, lead of 8 m for 360. once PS3 takes the lead then we can say, hah in you face 360 fanboys. but thats when(or if) the PS3 surpasses the 360.

I think you would feel differently if the two consoles were in different positions.

Also, I don't remember there ever being 2 competing consoles that were released on the same day and at the same price. Therefore, we can't compare any generation of consoles ever.

Let's not forget that the PS2 enjoyed a year head start in front of the xbox and gamecube, and the PS1 also enjoyed a 2 year head start on top of the N64. Does that mean that this takes away anything from the achievements of those 2 consoles? surely not. (Of course we have to remember that the playstations launched after Sega's consoles, but is anyone going to seriously debate that Sega gave any of the 3 companies a run for their money with their head start?).

So why then, must we always hear about X360's year head start? 360 is in front of the PS3, that is the reality and that includes the fact it launched first (Which I find a strange move by Sony, given how well launching early has done for them.)

Heck, I would even commend the 360 because it's beating the PS3 even though it shares similarities with the dreamcast (Cheaper and weaker than the Playstation of the day).

True but not germane to the question.

The Xbox 360 has sold more -- because it has been out a year longer and has a more advantageous price point.

The question is not "Who has sold more since 2007?" or "Who has generated more gross revenue from console sales?" as the answer to those would be Microsoft's XBox 360 and Sony's PS3 respectively.  (EDITED TO GET THE FACTS RIGHT).

Actually, it's the X360.

PS3 - 20.3 million
X360 - 21.7 million

Hence why in my last post I stated, "Since the X360 launched, since the PS3 launched, since 2007, since 2008, since 2009, since last month, since last week....X360 has sold more."

why not others face the fact that 360 always outsold ps3 every year...
but when you go to the facts that ps3's price tag is more expensive than 360's

I can say that the ps3 is just doing significantly great... come on guys...

I know for a fact that ps3 is looking as a failure to some, it is because of what
the its predecessor had done(PS1 and PS2)

360 is a success because Xbox has nothing to say to 360's sales...

question... why do you think that if we put the graph on the same time line(from hardware launch)
it is not empirical?

I think it is but the 1-year late of the ps3 is not an excuse of having a lesser units
sold that the of the 360

i think it is mainly the price tag, still it is not fair because of the features you will have
when the price tag of the ps3 is the same as the 360...

OT: Sony is the answer
-PS1,PS2,PSP,PS3
but sony is nothing compare to nintendo lol

PLAYSTATION®2 is the yesterday.....NOW.......still......A_L_I_V_E

Consoles own:

Nintendo: Famicom(japanese NES, Family Computer), GBC, GBA, DS, Wii

Sony: PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3

Microsoft: future 360 owner

MyBrute

Sony = PS1 + PS2 + PS3 sales = Approx 300 million
Microsoft = XB + XB360 sales = Approx 50 million

Hence, Sony > Microsoft by 6:1.
Its easy to understand. Its no secret that 360 has sold more than PS3....but the PS3 is selling more than 360 in an equal timeframe.

I will be editing my original post to correct the error.

Ok, the tone that some of these posts have taken is akin to the "PS3 is almost destroying the 360". It is bordering on silly here. Several things:
1. The Wii was launched at the same time as the PS3 (few day difference) and it outselling both the PS3 and 360. And it isn't price as the main factor. The Wii outsells the $200 360.
2. Sales numbers are sales numbers. Sony has sold more consoles historically than Microsoft. Microsoft has had more platforms for computing and gaming in place than Sony. The XBox 360 has sold more. Doesn't matter if it is price or whatever, the numbers are numbers.
3. Performing this time warp my somehow saying how the 360 sold LAST year matters for THIS year, is ONLY useful as ONE of multiple factors in making predictions. It assumes the 360 will suddenly stop. And that if the PS3 somehow is on the market longer than the 360 (Microsoft launches a new console), that somehow there is a victory here. It is an irrelevant victory, because the Wii still ends up winning, and also the reason sales matter is because it governs whether you get third-party support.

Yes... every week of full moon  the PS3 sell better -> PS3 domination...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
