Forums - Gaming Discussion - Renewed sense of gaming!

So for the last year or so, I've been pretty burnt out on gaming.  There's the occasional game that I will play and get glued to but those have been few and far between.  For the most part, I would start a game, play a few hours, and just completely lose interest.  I had even lost interest in pen and paper games and collectible card games.

I have this huge library of great games I'm sitting here looking at: MadWorld, de Blob, Sam and Max: Season One, Fallout 3, Saint's Row 2, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Dead Space, Gears of War 2 and many more and I just haven't been motivated to finish them.

I'll start them and even get far in most but I just stopped caring.  I'm not burnt out from work or anything, I just didn't want to play games.

So last week I started looking at my back catalog of games pretty heavily and for some reason just decided to start playing games again.  I started playing Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door and _almost_ stopped it like every other game.

That first hour just made me angry and I wanted to stop but decided to take the advice of fellow VGC members and soldiered on.

Well now I'm 6 hours into the game and I'm having a blast!  I'm having such a blast that I even started playing other games today.  They were little short games of Excite Truck, Mario Kart, Little Big Planet, Sonic's Ultimate Collection and I'm hooked again!

I have today off and I've been gaming most of the day.  When I went out to pick up lunch I happened to drive by Gamestop and decided to pick up a game a friend recommended to me (Freedom Fighters) and then picked up House of the Dead: Overkill along with a Wii Zapper.  I popped in House of the Dead and I'm having a blast!

So yeah, I was pretty dead on gaming.  Even trying to play through classics like Chrono Trigger on the DS, I wasn't really having fun.  I knew they were good games but I just wasn't getting a lot of enjoyment out of them and that sucked. I could get excited about upcoming games, but when it came time to play them, meh.

But after playing Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door that little spark kicked up again!

I'm playing all my little games, I'm sucked into Paper Mario, I'm even working on the game I'm making in my spare time again!

It's typical to lose interest in games when you hit the 20's, it happens to everyone once in a while. But seriously, you had such a plethora of good games by your side and didn't finish them?

Shame. oh the shame. at least you're back on track.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

Good to hear :D

Also.. If you're 'having problems' finishing games, I highly recommend Sid Meier's Pirates (2004, PC). The end of the game is when you choose to retire! It's open ended.

The new PC game Mount & Blade is also a 'flexible' fun experience.

good for u i also im of old age and get the feeling of not playing as much but it occasionally comes back wen games i like come out

if u take a long enough break from gaming there something that reminds u to go back i havent figured out wat it is yet but its there

I've been in that situation before, too. You just need the right game to kickstart you back up ^^ Glad to hear you're having so much fun.

I am glad you bought Freedom Fighters. I really enjoyed that game. Yes there are a few things that could or should be better, but I loved playing with a 12-people squad (towards the end of the game) fighting alongside you.

Yeah similar things happen to me I'll be really into gaming for a month or two then lose intrest and shift to movies for a few months then lose intrest in that and shift to doing computer art and the start the cycle over. Some times it happens quicker then others and there is some over lap.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

For the past year I have got back into gaming a lot but before that I took a break of about 3-4 years. In Japan I used to play a lot but then when I went to the UK my interest in gaming died very quickly. Played a lot of games since September with the latest being RE5. The next game I will be playing will be DQ IX followed by GT5, Versus and FFXIII, that is about it.

That is about it but generally as one gets older their interest games decreases more and more, at least for me and all my friends. The announcement of GT5 pretty much got me back into gaming, ironically it is getting be out of gaming again due to it looking like the game will never release.

Anyway education comes first and in another year I will be ripping out teeth for a living. *fingers crossed* :D

I've gone for 6 month periods where I would not be so into gaming but have been gaming harcore recently as it is such a cheap and solid form of entertainment as opposed to just pimping it all the time.
