Don't get me wrong, HD is great and will get more accepted later, but that doesn't mean Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will be the formats to carry it. Higher quality discs incompatible with the two, or downloadable content, there's a number of things that could beat out BluRay and HDDVD in a few years.

Who knows but then I think the thing that will beat HDDVD or Blu Ray in a few years has to be damned expensive.

 You think?  I'd imagine that whoever manages to "win" the next format war over DVDs would be the one to give the best value to the consumer.

well I call blueray and hd-dvd, the next laser disc

I kinda understand... Sure Blu-ray and HD-DVDs have more space and better images but I will stick with DVDs until I see a HUGE difference... There is a difference but imo, not big enough to go to another format. Also, I'm no way near rich so I stick with what I can afford... I also have more important needs.

lol, no big releases lately no shiet the sales will be down.

WTF do you geniuses think will happen when Spiderman DieHard Pirates Transformers Harry Potter hit ?

I think people will buy those movies on DVD.

And sony fan boys will buy them on blue-ray so next month they will have bragging rights oh hd formats are selling awesome again cause the big hits come.

Thats true it will go up however DVD's are always selling hit or no hit being out.

On Amazon the HD DVD release of Transformers is kicking the DVD's versions butt in pre-orders.

PS. HD DVD now has more capacity than Blu Ray.

just so you know hus, the new transformers movie sucked balls..... no where near as good as the classic, but when i buy diehard and spiderman, and some kubrick movies on rerelease it will be on dvd. tv seasons i fallow on dvd.

the only way i would adopt either right now is if the new futurama releases are only on one of the two formats, but comedy central seems to like dvd.

Harry Potter will be both blu-ray and HD-DVD

Transformers is HD-DVD exclusive

Spiderman 3, Live Free or Die hard and Pirates 3 were all considered dissapointments so media sales may not reflect box offices sales, I'm sure they'll sell well, but as DVDs, not Blu-Ray.

Sign the Resident_Evil_5_Petition for a Wii release or Dark_Samus is going to come get you.

another common reply to saying we need the extra space is: "when you compress data the quality of the picture and the sound go down... don't you want the best experience money can buy?"

Okay, I know you aren't saying this. I just am going to say, for those who may believe what he is quoting people as saying:

::Very Math Oriented::

::Wiki Article::

::Wiki Article on an easy to understand Lossless algorithm::

Lossless compression is REAL. It is a mathematical truth, and especially in anything digital, lossless compression is cheap and easy.

I was going to have an example here, but it took up too much space. There is a good example on the Huffman page (link #3).

In any case I am not saying this to you euclid. Just to those who might believe what he was saying some people believe.

Lossless compression is usually overkill anyway unless it is for achival purposes. Anyone who says they can tell the difference between a 320kbit/s MP3 and the original is either A) in the extremely small (and unfortunate) portion of the population with golden ears, B) studies psychoacoustics, particularly in regard to audio compression and knows what to listen for or C) talking out their ass (which is the most common group). The people in group C also tend to this that monster cable is actually worth the money and that gold connectors really do improve the sound.
