I don't think the $ cut "countering" the DSi. Maybe its just a sign that Sony's starting to phase out their console. It's a good price though, but many, including myself already have one.

wow ps2 is just amazing. when is that thing going to die?. let your son have a piece of the pie¡¡¡ jajajaja. but you know the console deserves all the sales it gets.

a ps2 at 99 will not steal any dsi shoppers in its launch week.

the people who will but the dsi in its launch time frame are mostly hardcore gamers, as is with all platform launches

Also, on launch week, many of DSi shoppers pre ordered the DSi, they most likely won't cancel their preorder for the PS2.

Seriously, who doesn't have a ps2 by now? And those that don't- they go to amazon and find them for like 50 dollars :/ Sony can do so much better than that.
