What makes you think it's not a remake? It's got the same characters as the original (at least, all we've seen is familiar faces so far), and everything I've read about it calls it a "reimagining" of the original. Keep in mind that there WILL be changes, but at its base the Wii game appears to be a remade version of the NES title.

And that's AWESOME.

What fighting game doesnt keep its characters? What of new fighting games isnt somewhat based on its predecessor?

Its a new game in the series.

So, all the mortal kombats, street fighters and even smash, count as remake??? Just b/c it has old characters, doesn't mean it's a remake. Plus it's been already confirm that is NOT a remake. Nintendo said it was a new game.

Not in the least, but then the sequels to those games added new characters (and occasionally took old ones away), new stages, etc. Is that the case here? Honest question, mind you, because I've yet to hear that it is. From where I'm standing, it looks like the original Punch-Out with better graphics, a new multiplayer mode, and some tweaks.

Look at it this way: under your reasoning, Resident Evil on the Gamecube was NOT a remake because it has stuff that the original didn't. We know that's not the case, of course. In fact, I venture that aside from adding multiplayer the REmake had more dramatic changes between the original game and its modern reimagining. The only thing that favors NOT calling Punch-Out!! a remake is that Nintendo said it's a "new game," but they've yet to show me any reason why "remake" shouldn't apply.

Keep in mind that I'm hardly insulting the game by calling it a remake. Remakes can be great (see: REmake, Klonoa, most likely Boy and His Blob, and tons more). I know that has a negative connotation in some folks' mind (nevermind that most of 'em never played the original), which is likely why Nintendo's taken the tack it has, but as near as I can tell this is, in fact a remake. Care to change my mind? I'm all ears.

It is retail.  SupaBrett was an insult to the Brett name

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Thanks TKS and Noname.  Either way, I'm excited for this remake..

Its still too shrouded in mystery to make a call either way. Lets see some game modes, lets see a full character roster.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The problem with Punch-Out!! is that we don't know about the full character cast and some other details yet. So at this point it's all speculation whether or not it is a remake or a new game. There isn't compelling evidence to suggest one way or another, so arguing over it won't lead to a clear result.

I'll agree with this, which is part of why I asked if there was some news I was missing. Ah well, it's not like we have long to wait before finding out either way.

There are new charactersat the very least. I am trying to track down the press release I saw it in but am having some trouble. Wikipedia has new characters and new moves listed, but with no source. Of course Wikipedia also lists it as a "re-imagining" of the title so it more or less keeps the debate at a stand still. What it is officially labeled as is largely irrelevant iif ya ask me. Just want to make sure the right info is out there.

Edit: Re-imagination is the official tagline given by Nintendo. I imagine this will be similar to what happened with Prince of Persia.
