When will we see another PS2 price cut? (The PS2, not the PS3.)
It might be time for Sony to cut the price on the PS2 to the $99 range and suitable cut in other regions. Sony's PS2 really helped them once the PS3 was released by leveling off loses somewhat. Now the PS2 seems to be selling less and less as time goes on but is to be expected for an older system. Another price cut could give PS2 hardware that last push before it falls of the radar and may sell a few more copies of PS2 games that are to be released in the future. It wouldn't really hurt them too much to take $30 off the price tag depending on the profit made per console. If they more than double sales they can make a decent profit as well once again depending how much they make per console. I think they may be waiting for a few things to happen before they decide such a thing.
- When PS3 price is cut then the PS2 will follow suit shortly after.
- The PS2 price cut will come at the same time as the PS3 price cut.
- Wait for PS2 sales to go so low that they will be forced to do a price cut.
- Waiting for some new add-on (something to the like of a Wiimote or other device to enhance game play). Could be bundled and stay the same price.
- Official 10-year anniversary announcement for the PS2.
- Possibly a PS3 with PS2 bundle for $50-$75 more (Possible add-on for both). (By far the craziest and least likely thing to happen but would be kind of cool to see.)
- *EDIT* 2009 Holiday price cut. (Thanks Tecmo for pointing that out!)
Which of these ideas do you think is best for Sony to do with the PS2?
Discuss and feel free to post your own idea or just let me know how silly I am.
