Forums - Gaming Discussion - What kind of TV do you need for gaming?

I'm looking to replace my current 26 inches SD TV with a 40-42 inches HDTV. I own a Wii and a 360. I am not interested in watching blu-ray movies so I'm wondering if I'm better off with a 720p TV or pay the extra 200$ to get a full HD TV. Will the 360 and Wii look better on the lower resolution or on the higher definition TV?

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

^That's what you need lol

Stick with the 720p if your not that interested in 1080p HDTV, it's not THAT big of difference. I know the 360 will look better on a high-resolution tv dunno about the Wii though, I would assume it would?

for the 360 (along with PS3) you need a decent size HDTV to see that difference. for a wii it doesnt matter since its just 480p you dont need a giant TV but that depends on the person. me personaly i want at least a 40 inch for my wii cause i have component cables thats just sitting im my room.

Most games don't manage 1080p anyways, so if you don't have the money 720p should suffice.

If you want to "future proof" your tv, then go with a 1080p tv, as I'm sure next generation most games should manage 1080p.

edit: oh, and unless you are sitting awefully close to your tv (8ft maybe) you will barely be able to notice 1080p anyways.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Get 1080p, it'll be much more worth it in the long run.
