Forums - General Discussion - What kind of food do you eat?

Well having just turned vegan I've been paying a lot of attention to diet lately. I'm under the impression there aren't a lot of veggies around here so Instead I'll ask a question that applies to all of you: What kind of stuff do you eat? Do you live off of fast food, do you eat a lot of salads, does your diet consist mostly of meat, or does it consist mostly of pasta? etc.

I've seen people living almost entirely off of mcdonalds and convenience store food before, I'm amazed they don't die or get fat off a diet like that.

Well i usually eat from 7-11

I'm vegetarian (ovo-lacto-) and I mostly eat pasta and pizza. Pasta sauce is really fun and easy to make.

I'm a vegetarian and have in the past 3 weeks moved into a self catered student residence. I've been eating pretty decent food actually - stir frys, risottos, pastas, curries for dinner. Usually just a toasted sandwhich or something simple for lunch. Breakfast = muesli time

How's being vegan going for you? I don't know that I could ever do that.

i eat whatever im in the mood for, supplemented by something healthy or a multi-vitamin to keep my health in check, i also drink shit loads of water and coca-cola

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do watch what I eat. I pretty much don't east red meat (well, except for roast beef because I love it so much and it is so lean). I try hard to get all my fruits and vegetables, take my vitamins, check how much sodium is in food, how much fat is in food, I look out for funky preservatives, etc.

So by guy standards I eat extremely healthy. I rarely, if ever, even enter a fast food restaurant (well, except for Subway, but that's not really fast food).

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I'd say I eat equal part meat, fruit and grains with some dairy and veggies. I need to drop the dairy and increase the meat and veggies but the only change I can see myself make is the increased protein. I've eliminated soda, fast food and soon junk food :D

I eat maybe 70% vegan stuff now, and outside of that I eat tons of cheese and burritos and pizzas. And I haven't used a microwave since December 2007, which is a big step up from my old diet. I used to microwave SCRAMBLED EGGS. Yeah, it's possible.

If you have any problems with diversity of your new vegan diet, I recommend using the power of the internet, or I can ask my wife, who's been vegan for over 5 years by now. There is way more vegan food out there than you have ever imagined. She learned how to make Ethiopian food and vegan pizzas within the last year, and they're both amazing. There's even a video on YubeTube of David Lynch teaching you how to cook quinoa.

Its going much smoother than I expected. I thought it would be hard giving up cheese but so far I'm not really missing it.

The unfortunate thing is that my store just got rid of 75% of its vegan alternatives selection, including the only vegan cheese pizza and vegan fake chicken nuggets that were available anywheres near here. I guess that ensures that I don't eat ANY junk food I guess.

Good thing is if I do work up a really bad pizza craving theres vegan pizza places in Boston and Portland, the nearest real cities to here which are both about an hour away.

How are vegan pizzas done in general? I seem to recall a vegan friend of mine mentioning polenta. I've never had one, so I can only speculate. Is it just capsicum, onion, tomato and other veggies on a base? What's the "cheese"?
