So they added blu-ray into there PS3 not just for games but so that blu-ray will kill HD and Toshiba (SP) will have to pull out and if anyone wants a hi def DVD platform they need to buy a Blu-ray player. The only major competitor they have is DVD and things like Direct TV.

 And thus Sony must get really pissed off when Toshiba sticks something in the spokes like they just did buying exclusivity from paramount and dreamworks. I think Sony was expecting to have won this format war by now, it must be agonizing for it to be drawn out so.
