People who have gone this long using only a Wii are not very likely to drop that much money just for the opportunity to play the latest entry in a series that many of them no longer identify with.

yeah, hence the absurdity of the topic to begin with.
I'm as big a Final Fantasy fan as one can get and I only own a Wii. Here's what I'm doing.
It's called "Renting" - I'm surprised so few here seems to have heard of it. As for the system to play it on, I have 2 friends who currently own both HD consoles - I'll work something out with one of em to borrow one for a week or two. Then I'll shotgun through the game.
If I were to pay $199 for a new system, add the price of the game + tax, you're looking at over $300 just to play *ONE* game - no game is worth that much.
I don' have a ps3 so it would obviously be wii. Still, if I had, I'd probably buy the original version on ps3.
I would only play the Wii version if it was "meant" to be played on Wii. If a game is built for years on an HD console due to the graphics capabilities, then chances are it is only going to be its best on that console, unless the control scheme just happens to fit the Wii like Resident Evil 4 did. I don't think that is the case here.

For example, I consider myself an FF and SMT fan. I'd have to buy whatever consoles they went to. luckily for me, they've stuck with my favorite line of consoles so far |
Blah, no way. I didn't buy a PS1 just for the FF's that came on it, and I'll be damned if those kids introduced by FF7 are considered more "real" fans than me. Most of them haven't even played the older ones...
Oh, and glad to hear that about SMT. There's a console out there you may need to end up purchasing
A) definitely
Probably not B) unless the game exceeds every expectation forever.
My Games of 2011:
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Super Mario 3D Land
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
lol I'm buying a ps3 (after a price cut) just to play ffxiii. I have a Wii but Nintendo tends to murder the final fantasy name with that crystal chronicles series. I still remember it coming out on Valentines day at my local game shop and me walking 2 miles to get my reserved copy only to find out that i would need 3 game boy advances in order to play with friends. Gayest concept I've ever heard of but hey, that's that.
If the Wii did score a numbered Final Fantasy (which I think should happen given the sheer amount of wii consoles that have been bought) I'd snatch it up in an instant.
I have a PS3, so I'd get it on that. But if I only owned a Wii, definitely A (buying a console for just one game is not my thing).
