Forums - Sony Discussion - Honestly, Sales Wise- What Does Killzone 2 Need to be a Success

Well it is rumoured to cost $40m to have made, and Sony gets about $20 per copy, so that would say 2m copies to break even? Seems fair enough. I would say Sony would want 3m

Munkeh - Sony is developer and Publisher so they'd most likely get more like 35 dollars per copy. Then the console manufacturer gets money too which... again is Sony.

I'd say less than 1.3million to break even

2.5 million. tis bunded so may do 3.5

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

proud soldier of nintopia

it all depends on ps3's adverstising and marketing.

Killzone 2 obviously is one of the most expensive games ever developed. They probably need 2 million sales to just break even. Generally, you want to make enough money within the year to make back costs and start developing on another similar title.

I don't think Sony will be happy with less than 3,5 million units sold.

All LTD and please this is using the benchmarks for other systems. I've tried to contract the range given the PS3 lower install base.

For comparison MK Wii has sold 14 mil on the Wii
Gears of War sold 5.9 mil on the 360

Both were considered bonafide hits.

1-2 mil Flop
2-4 mil OK
4-7 mil Great Succes
7 mil + Its an out and out classic

i think its gonna be around 3 mil by the end of the year and maybe 5 mil LTD its gonna be a hit

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Consoles owned: Game Cube, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3.

My prediction: NATAL WILL NOT help 360 sales. Maybe a 50-100k boost week 1, then a 30-70 k boost week 2, and back to the norm again after 3-5 weeks.

Chrizum - you are way over exaggerating on break even mark. The budget is rumored at 30million with surfergirl (lol) putting out a rumor that thre was a major malfunction with the game (or management) that made the game cost twice as much. 60 million (which I really doubt) for less than 3 years of development time and 125 employees anything over 40 million is unbelievable to me.

40million divide by 40 equals 1 million to break even. (yes sony will get 40 dollars as manufacturer, publisher, and developer) then its up to sony on how much of that they'll want to use to advertise.

Unless Sony puts some sort of MASSIVE MASSIVE marketing campaign behind this game it's not going to do what it's supposed to.

It's not likely to make PS3 sell more than Wii for more than a week anywhere (if it even does for a week).

Don't get me wrong the game will sell pretty well, but it's not going to be a system seller and be the PS3 saviour that the fan boys are dreaming it to be.

That said, I can't freakin wait to play it :)
