So you haven't played the beta? Makingmusic and various other people have played the beta and they say its amazing.

And that PS2 userbase arguement is bullshit. Selling over 2M isn't an easy task, no matter what console it was on.

I'm not saying anything about Killzone 2, but people played the beta for R2 too and hyped it as the most amazing thing ever. There was thread after thread touting R2 was going to kill everything and change gaming based on the beta.

Now that the game has released, it has come and gone and proved to be good but nothing spectacular.

I'm not implying that Killzone 2 will be bad in any way at all, I'm just going to wait until the game is released to start getting excited about it. If I can get my hands on a free demo I'll gladly play that and be happy, but not going to hype the game.

A voice of reason. I want to check this game out, but the hype is just sickening. I peek in threads, see the spin, get dizzy and leave. Unrealistic expectations and hype will just ruin the experience for some potential buyers.

It might still be a great game. Im sick of hearing of it on this site(along with other certain topics), but this is a game forum.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

If you really want to check this game out.
Then go to Gametrailers, watch some trailers, take note on the gameplay, watch screenshots, stare at .gifs.
Just make sure to skip on the comments section.
Basically, create your own opinion on the game without all the spin.
What other people say shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game when you put it in your PS3.

Many Sony fanboys seem to be taking this thread as "LOL WOW, YOU ONLY MAD BECAUSE WE GET HYPED GOOD GAMES LAWLZ" and "LOL teh Wii sucks." Yep bashing one console that isn't your favourite is really making you seem like the better person >.> (that was sarcasm btw).

I think what he's trying to say the amount of threads which keep giving the message "this will make the PS3 win this generation" or "this will destroy all competition" is really getting annoying. And before anyone labels me as a "Sony hater" or "fanboy" of any sort, I'd like to see your proof. Pointing to my sig doesn't count as that is just my opinion and haven't bashed on anything. I actually don't bash on anything but when I say some intelligent criticism or even defend something I own, I get labeled a "fanboy." lol

I have reviewed tons of games, and played many more since the late 70s. I am not fooled one bit by awesome graphics. Let me see how the gameplay is. That makes or breaks a game for me.

You could have all the bells and whistles in a game - online, multiplayer, great graphics, eye candy and the like, but if the controls suck, if the game is short, if it doesn't live up to the hype, it phails.

No jealousy coming from me and from a vast majority of folks who aren't sold that this game will be the next champ on the PS3. Sorry, but we've been on this train before - just wait until ___________ comes out and turns PS3 sales around.

Happy Squirrel has the best sentence in this entire thread: Not to mention that the first Killzone was heavily hyped back in the day as being a "Halo Killer" primarily because it had good graphics and was a PS2 exclusive ...

Just update it - Killzone 2 is heavily hyped as being a "Halo Killer" primarily because it has good graphics and is a PS3 exclusive.

jealousy comes to mind...but honestly, if you're not interested in killzone 2/don't have a ps3 then why do these threads bother you so much? just ignore them? Pretty simple...I would not dare to go into a thread hyping madworld...simply because the game doesn't interest me. get over it.

I did say "Take note on the gameplay", since the Beta is over.
There are a lot of gameplay vids out there.
Also check trailers for the games atmosphere.
Not only that you could also see how the AI responds, the physics, animations, the destructable environments(which help with immersion and deepens gameplay), weapons(if you want to spoil yourself), etc.

But "awesome graphics" does help with the immersion.
Where would COD4 stand overall if it had COD3's visuals?

And makingmusic476 had a good answer for Happy's sentence.
"The final game fell far short of those good graphics, and the graphics weren't even that good in the bullshots.

The final game was plagued with rampant texture pop-in and constant framerate dips.  Both these things are obviously not a problem with the sequel, given the amount of play time the press has had with the game (and beta testers), with no complaints (nor any visible problems in gameplay videos - in fact, the visuals have only improved over the last few months)."

What I'm trying to convey is, give the game a proper chance to stand on it's own merits.
Not on what its predecessor failed to do. It doesn't have to be the "Champ/Savior of the PS3" to be a great game.
As a gamer who has as much gaming experience as you claim, I doubt you only play games that are dubbed "Champs".
So again, create your own opinion if you want, devoid of all the hype given off from the other fans or fanboy googles.

As I've said before "Nothing will kill Halo, except Halo itself".

I know I've seen places on the internet even recently that believe that is "could" befall Halo.  But I just laugh, because Killzone 2 is it's own game entirely.

I wouldn't say it's being "heavily hyped as being a "Halo Killer"".  If it was, you would see it ALL over the internet, including VGChartz.

Oh and now aiming at the first part of your paragraph, PLAY THE BETA (well you can't now, but still).

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

Have any of you complaining about the hype ever stopped to think..
Oh... Maybe the hype is deserved?

Have you ever stopped to think how many of the games this year that were uber hyped didn't deserve it?

Again, not saying Killzone 2 isn't going to deserve it, I would just rather wait until I can get my hands on the game before declaring it OMG best game ever!!!!11!!

Ok, but what is hype exactly, other then a prediction of being an amazingly fun game? Are you suggesting that all predictions be right on, or that people just stop making predictions alltogether. This site is all about predictions and yet people love to slap everyone in the face when they make a prediction that comes out false, thusly making fewer people want to make predictions. But then where would these forums go without the predictions of members?

If someone wants to hype a game, let them. Whats really sad is when people's predictions affect someone so much that they need to create an awful thread showing their disgust for it. How sour a person must be if something so little effects them in such a major way.

Agreed. Killzone 2 will be a great game, Thats all PS3 Fans are saying, hopefully sales will be likewise. "PS3 saviour" is actually used 95% of the time 360/Ninty fanboy, Not PS3 Fans

You know, every few months PS3 fans start hyping another game through the roof, and someone makes a thread telling them that they should really calm down and let the game come out before they go nuts about it; and every that poster is ridiculed and told that the game will be great. Then, when said game either a) is not good or b)fails to sell the bajillion copies it is being hyped up to sell, the fans deny any knowledge of the hyping, and quickly find a new game to flaunt.

Can you guys take some advice from a pretty middle ground guy? Knock it off, it is really irritating to watch the same cycle repeat again and again.

It's like one of those apocalyptic cults where the cult leader keeps predicting the end of the world, and of course it never actually happens.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
