Sure its possible... it all depends upon when the PS3's price is cut, by how much, and the effects the price-drop has to its sales. All in all, 09 is not really likely whatsoever at all now that I think about it, but early 2010 isn't completely inconceivable...

I dont believe the PS3 will ever reach 40 million by the end of the generation.

You may not know, but we are reaching the middle of this generation and if the PS3 couldnt get the rails on it, it will never get them.

I almost can tell it wont reach 35 million, no matter how cheat it is, the GCN was at only U$99 and with great games, still was outsold my X-Box and PS2, the DC had a similar pattern, could get into the mass market and was outsold my the PS2, in the middle of that generation barely sold 200K everyweek.

The most PS3 has sold is 9m/year when the numbers come in it will be mid 19m. It will need to sell 21m this year even with big price cut that probably will not happen I dont think it will get near those numbers those numbers are Wii numbers. I believe that it will reach there late 2010.

I think it all depends on the world economy in 2009. Sony could be in real serious trouble if the economy continues to worsen, which it most probably will.

It should but you neve know, less successful consoles in previous generation after a certain times had sales dropping off because of being simply less popular in the general public: DC, GC, Saturn etc. etc PS3 hopefully will overturn this trend and become more successful. A release of new MS Hardware early could also help.

But im not extremely optimistic, if PSP is out for a year or two in my opinion PS3 wont outsell Sony's handheld.

u underestimate teh power of teh cell. But seriously, I understand if you don't believe that it won't be able to reach 40 million, but you expect the PS3 to sell less than 16 million by the time the next generation starts? I don't compute.
