Forums - Nintendo Discussion - For those who think Zelda Wii in 2009, analysts do so too...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6202650.html

Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian expects Link's next adventure to help push modest industry growth next year; GTAV potentially arriving in 2010.

With this year's release of Wii installments for Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart, there are few cherished Nintendo series in need of a new-generation debut. That means it's about time for the publisher to start a second lap of its greatest hits, and if one industry analyst's prognostication is accurate, leading off that lap could be a second installment of The Legend of Zelda.

In a note to investors this morning, Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian listed a slate of 22 games that could potentially help drive a 5 percent growth in game sales for 2009. In addition to heavily anticipated games like Resident Evil 5 and Starcraft II, Sebastian included a new Princess Peach adventure and an as-yet-unannounced Zelda game.

In the report, the list of games was sourced to Lazard's research, as well as to company reports. Speaking to GameSpot, Sebastian clarified that the inclusion of a Zelda game on his 2009 list was speculation on his part.

The last Zelda installment, The Twilight Princess, was a launch game for the Wii in November of 2006. It was originally announced as an exclusive for Nintendo's previous console, the GameCube, but was adapted to headline the slate of traditional gamer offerings at the Wii launch. Twilight Princess did arrive on the GameCube, but its release was staggered a month after its Wii counterpart.

Sebastian's note also referenced Grand Theft Auto V in passing.

"Looking ahead to 2009, we expect mid-single-digit growth in software sales on a tough growth comparison and potentially fewer hit titles (e.g., no GTA V until 2010)," Sebastian wrote.

When asked for clarification on that remark, Sebastian said he wasn't so much specifying 2010 as a release window for the game as telling investors that it would definitely not be coming out in 2009. However, he also pointed to Rockstar Games' release schedule of Grand Theft Auto games in the previous generation, which saw GTAIII released in 2001, GTA: Vice City in 2002, and GTA: San Andreas in 2004.

Though I hate Gamespot at a personal level, this is a bit interesting....your thoughts?

Hmm, I guess everybody agrees that the analysts don't know anything and this is all fodder

Nah more like this is gamespot and 88 score says hi!

I wouldn't be surprised if zelda or mario galaxy 2 are anounced, but I highly doubt they will release in 2009. I think Pikmin 3 will be the big holiday game for ninty. Since last year they released alot of there big guns in the first half of the year, I think we'll see S&P2 and Punchout make it out in the first half.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

in miyamoto's latest interview, he said zelda will not be at E3, it strongly suggests that we wont see zelda in 2009, unless they announce it some were else, i hope so

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

I do not consider Zelda: TP the first "Wii Zelda" that is the same to me as calling RE4:Wii the first installment of RE on the Wii...

It was a last gen port. The game was delayed a year so they would have something to go on the Wii that looked like something big.

I really think Nintendo SHOULD release Zelda in 09. It may be a spring 2010 release I fear though...

I just dont think Punchout, Pikman and others have the heavy hitting power needed to stay the Wii until the recieforcements come (bigtime 3rd party games in 2010)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Yep.

The next Zelda will come out when Nintendo thinks it's ready. Might be late in '09, but I think '10 is more likely.
