Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should I sell my PS3?

I was so excited to get both the 360 and the PS3.  As many of you have heard me bitch and moan before, my 360 broke right before the first warranty extension.  Since it would cost $140 to repair, I decided to trade it in for my Wii.  I bought a used PS3 right before the price cut.  Everytime I put in a game, I feel like I wasted money.  I just spent too much money this generation, and now I regret it.

It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I am usually very careful to spend money.  I feel like I wasted money and I just can't enjoy it.  I don't care about HD movies, I like Planet Earth but it just doesn't justify the PS3 as a game machine or a HD movie player (or both).  The free Gran Turismo HD Concept was a nice bonus and that is what I have played most.

Now I look at the upcoming list of games, and the only two I am still interested in are FFXIII and Haze.  Maybe Warhawk.

I don't think I would buy another 360, there are a lot of great games but it is still just too much to spend on a video game console.

Meanwhile with all the money I spent on all these games and systems, what have I played the most in the last 6 months?  Planet Puzzle League, Elite Beat Agents, and New Super Mario Bros.   What am I playing most right now?  Strikers.

I am not questioning the quality of the PS3 or its line up, I am saying that I can't enjoy it because I just feel like it is a waste of money, to me.

I am NOT reccomending others avoid PS3, it is a fine piece of hardware and I know that there are some good games.  I am only talking about my situation.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

If you wish.

I am not sure.  I am unhappy with how much I spent, but do you think that will go away into next year?  Do you think I will still feel this way?  Is it worth more to sell it now before another price drop?

I know I will lose money on the deal, but in 3 or 4 years if there are a lot of game that I want I can rebuy it (much cheaper).  Of course I will regret it if FFXIII turns out to be completely irresistable (with a good line up of more games on the cheap, one game doesn't do it alone for me.)

Well, If you don't want to play Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank, Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII and many more PS3 exclusives go right ahead and sell it.

In the end it comes down to which system has most games that you want to play. For me that is the PS3, but that is subjective.

Depends on how much you can get for it. If it were me, I'd just keep it, unless I could sell it back for 100 less than I bough it. That may not be the case anymore.

However, if you need money for other games...

Yes, before it gets another price cut or you will keep losing money.

well, I f u dont care about the price, even if u sell it, it will not change the fact that, for you, "u have spend lot of money"
And since u still want to play some games ==> keep it .

easy ... ;=)

Time to Work !

Do it before it gets cut again, if you do it at all.

I don't need the money for other games, but it would make me feel less guilty about the 20 or so games I am buying this holiday (5 are gifts)

The only one I am really interested in is FFXIII.  GT I always love, but I can play GT3 for hours still to this day.  GT3 is like Stride Gum.

Of course I would lose my PS2 capabilities, I traded it in when I bought the triple. (that's a thought, could I live without GT at all?)

Anyway I am glad I am gatting great feed back, that is really helping me think this through.

He did say he was interested in one of those. Unfortunately FFXIII being released, at the earliest, in March 2008. Once the lineup is more to his liking, he can buy it back, for a lower price.

Its your decision, but I think you should give it a little longer. Are you returning it or selling it used? If time is an issue, you might not have time to wait and check out the future PS3 games.

This is just my personal experience, so take it at that, but I am honestly having a harder time figuring out what games I am NOT going to buy for the PS3 this Christmas. The list so far is:

Definites:

Warhawk
Lair
Heavenly Sword
Folklore
Assassin's Creed
Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank
Folklore

Maybes:

Unreal Tournament 3
Haze (probably one or the other of these two)
Singstar
Guitar Hero 3 (comes out on Wii too of course)
a few others

If only so you don't miss out on the great PS3/360 multiplats like GTA, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4 I would recommend you keep it. If cost is an issue, I would recommend renting first. They post demos too if you are into that kind of thing. If you need the money from the PS3 I can understand, but it is not like the machine is worthless even if you don't buy a ton of games for it. I just recommend giving it a little time unless you have to return the PS3 immediately or something to get your money back.

O yeah, something else random. I was browsing IGN and it looks like they have the GT5 prologue set for Oct. 23rd on the PSN. That should be a much more complete version of the game. I don't really like racing games, but even I know Gran Turismo is a great series.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
