Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 'Mii' home room and achievements...

I wonder if all this will link into that system Sony talked about last year - where users would take pictures of their surroundings, and Sony would take the data and build this into a virtual (real) world..?

Does it ever? Be truthful do rumors become less credible when the typical PR speak is laid down?

Idunno. But how are Mii's practical? All they are is a horribly cartoony 3D face... and you can pick a shirt color. It is implemented in select nintendo games. That in my opinion, makes the games look and feel lower budget than most of them already do. The who idea of the Mii is childish. The idea of the Mii is to secure children. A child builds a profile on a Mii, describing himself or herself. Becase a 'bio' is a dangerous thing. So nintendo has allowed you to answer a bunch of questions on the Wii to allows someone to get the same idea about someone... just through impractical questions, to force protection on you. That is what a Mii is to me. Forced protection. And a funny looking little guy that is amuseing in select Nintendo games. If you can create your 'character' And then create a house for it to live in. And then have a BLOG on the wall that people can walk up to the wall and READ the blog... ON THE WALL. That would be F*King Awosome. If you beat resistance... Get a Resistance light of some sort or something... Or a poster to put on the wall. Get a Sonic bedsheet. Or some BS like that. And anyone who meets you online can come look at your 'room/house'. That sounds OMFG Awosome. Buy more rooms and stuff, with 'acheivement' points. So the more you play, the more space you get. Voice chat... Have a little 'city' that represents your 'community'. And walk into any of your friends houses, and see what they got. Read their blog. ETC. I'd rather see this than the PSP+PS3 functionality. The Mii Parade is the only way that Mii's work online for the current time... and well. I've heard of people with their friends maxed out, each haveing like 20 mii's and they get 1 or 2 other mii's to show up every few hours. So for a Mii parade of 20-30 Mii's Your looking at needing 100+ friends... yet your limited to I think 20. Stolen or not. This idea is killer. This stuff happens all the time. Usually companies are afraid to post stuff like that in fear of legal action.

Kwaad, keep digging :) Mii's are practical. They are not childish. And they world great in Wii Sports, and Wii Play (and no doubt other games coming). There hasn't been a single "child" (younger than 15) use our Wii, yet we have about 30 Mii's - and have received some from friends in the US and elsewhere. Those Mii's now show up in the audience in Wii Sports, and can also be played with. What you are describing sounds *exactly* like Animal Crossing. Wow. Im so... so... happy for you? I hope you enjoy your killer idea. And I'll like to see how Sony deals with censorship & pornography in an open system.

shams - I hope your kidding. 1. 15 is a Rateing T. Very few games that I own are rated T, unless it's a RPG. In america a 15 year old has the same rights as a 5month old. 2. Sounds like Animal Crossing? Once agian. How is this bad? 3. The Mii's show up in the audiance. That's... Cool and all... Makes the game really fun. 4. Mii's ARENT childish? That was the very first impression I got about the Mii.

The more you talk about what is/is-not childish the more I think that you're a 16 year old with wealthy parents ...

Yup. The most childish games I've ever played were GTA3, and God of War. Yup, Bubble headed avatars that are poorly animated just like in a childrens cartoon. (2-6year old) Is mature. EDIT: and being able to decorate a house and maintain your awards... Is more childish.

Yes, a virtual "house" with awards could be very childish, or at least something only a few actually care about

How do they all work? Wii: I have no idea how there achievements work. How? Xbox: Isnt it you just buy a game and you get achievements? Whats the point of the achievements then? PS3: I dont know either.

Well the x-box you get achievements by completing stuff within a game. (I think you get some for buying tho too) Wii does NOT have anything in any way similar to achievements. PS3 is obviously getting a virtual room with the ability to put acheivement decorations in it. And It's basically a given that everyone can access it.
