the only useful thing we would ever need is the time on the HOME menu, yet we don't get it...

Huh?  It's there.   I just noticed mine is off but 45min.  However, it should auto-sync once a day based on the time zone from your location from the weather channel...

He means when you press the Home Button, so you can see what time it is while you are playing a game.

Oh, that would be handy...  it's not exactly what I would call a menu though...  Any place to make feature suggestions to Nintendo?

The big update - probably the "surprise" that is coming in September - could be the "voice" (speaking) update. It would be awesome to kick open the news channel, start making dinner - and have all the news stories read to me while I was cooking!

(beyond that, the only thing I can dream of - is a platter of downloadable content for Metroid - although we won't get the game till late Oct/early Nov ...)

Huh? Where/when was a surprise announced? Can someone link me?

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Haven't seen this little tidbit mentioned anywhere online yet -- I was checking my WiFi router's DHCP Client registry this evening, and discovered that the Wii now announces itself as such when it obtains an IP address. It used to show up as a blank entry on the list, but now it says "Wii"!

A minor fix, to be sure, but solves a little head-scratching I ran into when I first set it up (had to look at the outgoing logs to see that the unlabeled mystery entry was hitting a lot of wii.com servers!)

Yeah, I have a Netgear FVG318 router as my main access point and it sees the Wii as "Nintendo_Wii".

As for the voice update...when is that coming? that will be pretty sweet!

To Each Man, Responsibility

Updating has it's downsides, it seems thanks to the update people with import Gamecube games and a freeloader are no longer able to play their import games on the WII after the update.

"Nintendo has remained quiet about whether it will fix compatibility problems with third-party software Freeloader, after yesterday's Wii firmware update rendered it unusable.

It reiterated to Eurogamer that because it isn't an official product approved by Nintendo, there was nothing it could do.

The Datel disc was originally manufactured for the GameCube, and allowed people to import titles from Japan or the US and play them on their PAL console. And up until now it had the same effect on backwards-compatible GC games played on Wii.

Let's hope then that foreign releases will take less time to appear in Europe in future. "

Onna76,

Did you get burned by that? I seem to remember reading postings in which you talked about import games.

No not me, as I own an import WII ;) The Freeloader kind of busted up my GC in the past so I'm not found of those discs to begin with.
