i laught at people who say that they cant tell which is better lol.

It all depends on what your Entertainment set up is.  If you have a tv less than 46 inchs you will not notice.  Anything above 57 and it is a huge difference.

Sorry, but your wrong on that one because I notice quite a difference on my 27" toshiba in my bedroom (Examples? Constantine, Superbad, Wild Hogs all have a remarkable difference)

i had a 42" 1080p plasma that broke (under warrenty) so i exchanged it for a 50" 1080i plasma. i read that one couldn't notice the difference between 1080p and 1080i unless you get to sizes closer to 55".

if that's true then i'd suspect that the difference between bluray and upscaled on dvds shouldn't be that noticable on a smaller screen.

personally, i haven't watched any up-scaled dvd's recently or even have copies of the same material on both formats... so why am i posting again?

Those TV's looked pretty small for a fair 1080p comparison.

small? they had to have been at least 40 inches just by guessing

you really think those are 40inch TV's?

Didn't you hear what the chick in the video said?

At 42 inches, the difference is fairly noticeable. Certainly an upgrade. Nothing negative to say about Blu-Ray when it comes to quality.

That said, 1080p upscaled DVD9 doesn't look too bad at all. :P

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I notice a pretty large difference on my 52" XBR4. The only DVDs I still watch are the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions (aside from when my nieces and nephews areover), and they're extremely soft and fuzzy compared to the Blu-Rays I own (except for those with shitty transfers, like Talladega Nights, which I got for free with my launch ps3).

Even an older film like the Fifth Element looks much more detailed on Blu-Ray than any DVDs I've seen.

I really can't wait for the Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray!

All this said, it certainly isn't nearly as large a leap as VHS to DVD. Not even in the same ballpark. The reason the DVD upgrade from VHS was so necessary was that it also increased efficiency of space and shipping, and the functionality and controls of watching a movie.

Blu-Ray has none of these advantages. Also, considering you need a >42"(the most popular size if I'm not mistaken) TV to even tell the difference between a 25 dollar upscaling Samsung DVD player and a 199 Sony BR player, and you can assume that most of the BR early adopters are either PS3 gamers, videophiles, falsely informed, or bought their BR players as status symbols.

Sony has done a great job of forcing this format upon the casual public. The differences seem minute. I can certainly tell the difference, but my parents couldn't. The reality is that the difference just isn't that huge. There is no other functional difference, unless you count extra content....which is usually some crappy free movie game that you play with your BR remote, which succeeds in giving shovelware a bad name.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I got a 40in Bravia X series. The PS3 upscales a standard DVD nicely but to me, it is chalk and cheese between an upscaled DVD and BD source. BD kicks it to oblivion, plus the navigation is so superior.

Also people forget about the sound advances. I look forward to my amp purchase next year and the 7.1 lossless sound quality :)

If people could play the same games or their PS2's and Xbox 1s as they can in the current generation, pay 1/3rd to 1/2 the cost of the disk for the exact same game I doubt that more than half the people here would have next generation systems!

Im not motivated to pay 3x more for a disc when I tend to prefer using digital media on a HDD anyway. Personally I don't care enough to pay extra for it, even with the player. If/When the disc prices come down I would consider it, but definately not now.

Tease.

LOL.  I agree about disc prices.  That is why I am only getting my blu-rays from Netflix.  Planet Earths are coming next.

It's no contest. The only people who "can't tell the difference" are people who wanted HDDVD to win the format war.
