Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii games with superior graphics than Xbox 360, or Playstation 3 games

technically the wii cant compete, it would be crazy to say otherwise, but good brushes , canvas and paints dont make you an artist.
Its just as easy to create ugly graphics on the PS3 as it is the Wii.

In terms art atistic merit, and overall appealing styles, things such as Elebits, Galaxy, Zack & Wiki are unmatched (atleast for now), but this is down to japanese artistry, the xbox is too obsessed by dark, gritty killing games, which no matter how good they look just dont appeal to me.

You could reverse that and say the exact opposite, but thats just a difference in opinions and taste.

When i look at a game like Galaxy i find it difficult to see how improvements could be made, sure the resolution could be higher and the textures may benifit from more detail but what would be the benifit other than eyecandy? Its one thing to have incredible power, but its another to utilise it properly and i think thats where Nintendo and alot of Japanese developers have the advantage. Galaxy still oozes style and beauty and most of all, it looks like a FUN game, not just yet another man shooting other men/aliens. People of all ages and gender will look at Galaxy and want to play it, games such as GTA, GoW, Halo etc just dont do that.

Basically i think if the developer has the artistic flair, the format is irrelevent, an appealing game is no more appealing to me if its in 480p or 720p.

But this is only from a strictly "realistic is better" standpoint. Some people enjoy games with complimentary art styles and to them there probably are Wii games that look better than all PS3/360 games.

NO

becasue a PS3 game with the same art style will look a hell of alot better then the wii game.

ORLY? For certain art styles there are limits in what can be achieved by brute force. 2D games are one of them - art became more important that power a long time ago for that. Even certain 3D games, for example Mario which thrives more on simplicity than complexity, the limit for what can be graphically achieved may be met on the Wii.

HD 2D > wii 2D

The best on the Wii may look better than the worst on the 360/PS3 but if you compare the best on the Wii to the best on the 360/PS3 then there's simply no comparison. Also if you compare the same styles of game (stylized, realistic, etc) the 360/PS3 will also come out on top but if people who prefer one style over another choose to make comparisons with their favored style on the Wii vs. another style on the 360/PS3 they'll feel the Wii comes out on top based on personal preference of artistic style rather than a fair comparison.

An undeniable fact is that both the 360 and PS3 are capable of producing far better graphics than the Wii as far as the hardware is concerned but it's the quality of the developers, their knowledge of the hardware, and how much resources they're willing to devote to graphics that is the deciding factor.

I can pretty much agree with everything you say except the part about "fair".  Which games someone likes isn't a matter of being fair, that comparison is for them to determine and the fair comparison for one person is completely different from the fair comparison for another person.

I think the point you were trying to make was that a comparison where all parties are trying to achieve the exact same thing will yield results where the PS3/360 are at least equal or most often ahead of Wii graphics.  And this is true, but at the same time, their increased power repels the stylized games that the Wii is using to attract many of its customers.  So in the end it sort of becomes an issue of "Well sure they would look at least just as good on the PS3/360 but the point is there isn't much of a library available on the PS3/360 for these styles".

I think by in large a stylized game would be critisized by PS3/360 owners for its failure to make use of the hardware.  This is why LBP has really high quality textures where on the Wii it would of been a more stylized game, neither method is better than the other they just attract a different kind of player is all.

I am going to just stop here, I don't want to get cought up arguing the same point, because I really do think we mostly see eye to eye on this one and I am probably beating a dead horse here.

In general ,NO .

Sure a AAA Wii game can look better that a PSN or Live downloadable game ,or that a port from last gen like Godfather .

But multiplattform titles the Wii will always look worse .

And comparing the AAA of the Wii against the AAA of the PS3 (Haze ,Unreal 3 ,MGS4 ,Killzone 2 ,Lair ,Uncharted ,GT5 ,RE5,COD4 ) or the 360 (Mass Effect ,Gears of War ,Halo 3 ,COD4) shows a massive difference .

The problem with this argurment is that it's completely subjective. We're not comparing horsepower, in which case 360/ps3 win hands down, but how the graphics look, and that can be subjective to the style an individual enjoys. For example, I played Transformers on both 360 and Wii, I thought the Wii version looked more realistic because they used too many shiny effects on the 360. They bump mapped the heck out of sidewalks, roads, put reflective effects everywhere, and the real world doesn't look like that. Concrete sidewalks are a dull grey, no shinyness, same with roads and most buildings. I think many devs go overboard with making the game look 'shiny' and it ends up looking fake. Crisp, clear, pretty, but fake and plastic at the same time.

Granted, there are many 360/ps3 games that do look amazing, but again, it's really up to taste. Because of my art style preference, I prefer the graphics of Mario Galaxy to any 360 or PS3 game released so far.

And Killzone3 is IMO the biggest troll on this site right now. Nothing but one-line flamebait posts. Very rarely (if ever) have I seen a paragraph-long well thought out argument from him. He could pretty much just put "Wii sucks!" for every post- that's the extent of his arguments.

Soriku could you just be quiet now?

every thread I visit there is a post from you calling someone a Sony Fanboy.

The Wii´s graphics can´t compete with 360 and PS3, get over it. That doesn´t mean they are better consoles, so try to calm down a bit, okay?

its alla bout what you like. if you like that plasticy looking detailed game then no the wii cant compare. but if u want a game that is played on a normal tv and still look good the wii is equally comparable.

I think Mario Galaxy looks better than some 360 games. Along with Metroid Prime 3.

@fazz, the GC version and the wii version of RE looked the same, you can go find some side-by-sides on gametrailers.

wii will have good graphics but the 360/ps3 is capable of even better graphics.
