So I was just looking through some news articles and I noticed a few articles talking about Apple taking on Nintendo and Sony.  "Because again the computer power and the 3D graphic power here [iPod Touch] is significantly greater than what you have here [picks up Nintendo DS]. So this allows people to do significantly higher quality games."  This line cracks me up because everyone always knows that better graphics equals higher quality games.  Will the ipod touch sell a lot of hardware and games?  I am sure.   Will they take away market share from Nintendo and Sony? No!

We've brought you information on the Apple's iPod Touch and the company's claim of portable gaming dominance before, and here's new word that the company is seeking to increase its share of the portable gaming market.

Apple Vice President of iPod and iPhone Product Marketing Greg Joswiak, carrying one of the longest job titles known to man, had an interview with T3.com and spent plenty of time talking about Apple's interest in the game market. "There are already so many games and as we look at it, to us it really seems this is the future of gameplay. Whereas a lot of these devices [Nintendo DS and Sony PSP] are more in the past."

He continued discussing the iPod Touch advantage through its WiFi capabilities and digital distribution service, "[w]hereas apps on other devices have to be delivered primarily physically, they cost a lot more, £25 versus almost all the games cost £5..."

Joswiak concludes with a statement on the comparison between the difference in hardware between an iPod Touch and the two handheld devices. "Because again the computer power and the 3D graphic power here [iPod Touch] is significantly greater than what you have here [picks up Nintendo DS]. So this allows people to do significantly higher quality games. And the Touch is always in your pocket, whereas you can’t always carry some other games consoles."

The iPod Touch has only been out for two months, but the device's digital distribution service reportedly contains over 1,500 games. I suppose one can't have too many copies of Tetris, now can he?

apple has their heads in the clouds once again. Man who knows where this company would be now without the ipod.

How silly you are Apple. Ipod Touch is not competing with DS. PSP possibly. DS is primarily a games machine. Ipod Touch is primarily a multimedia device. Two differing products for different products. Even DSi is true to this, it may have media functions but they are more along playing with photo's and music rather than being an uber media device as Ipod Touch is (or wants to be, depending on your feelings about Apple).

This article was worth it in the lulz department.

 And the iPhone. You can't forget the iPhone when it outsold the Blackberry last quarter. Or the Mac, which is gaining US marketshare faster than any other retail PC, especially in laptops.

Most of Apple's posturing is for the developer's benefit, I'm sure. Look how much power our platform has, look at our slick online marketplace, look at how fast our userbase is growing. The only way Apple is actually going to compete with DS and PSP is if developers think that they can.

Right now, the only equivalency between Apple and Nintendo is that they both make hardware and they both earn over a billion dollars in profit a quarter. The iPhone isn't there yet, but it never will get there if Apple doesn't push.

Say hello to the microsoft of hand helds - it may be collored differently and it may lack the superficial "silver-bullet" that wears a bucket on his head and thinks he's cool, BUT! This is the next Microsoft.

well, in truth though, both the iphone and the mac market share are booned by the ipod in the first place. The Ipod turned this company around.

At least Microsoft put a computer in every damn house and business. Haven't seen Apple come even close to achieving anything that comes even close to that. But now I jsut digress into bashsing Apple. I'll stfu.
