@ Everyone talking about the lack of games...

Do you feel that 2009 is a possible turning point for Nintendo & the Wii?

...As much as I HATE to think about "next" year, the strategy that I see is falling in line with the DS. Alot of games that are designed for the Core gamer are coming out in Oh' 9. Nintendo even is focusing their core efforts on Oh' 9...

Looking Behind the Curtain

I remember teaching my cousin how to play Wii Tennis, and when he went to serve the ball, he lifted his left hand, the one not holding the Wii remote, to toss. At that moment, he didn’t understand how the Wii worked.

All he knew was that it was some sort of magical machine that mimicked your real life movements. It was a joyous occasion and a incredible exploratory experience.

But the innocence did not last long. Upon further experimentation, he learned how the controller worked, discovering that a quick snap of the wrist gave the same forehand as a loopy swing of his whole upper body. As the initial amazement wore off, Wii Tennis became simply another video game.

...

i wonder if the author had the same disappointment when he found out santa clause isn't real, or that daniel ratcliff isn't acually a wizard in real life, or that strippers aren't actually into him.

the illustion is part of the fun, the immersion.  i wonder he relizes that when he's playing halo (or whatever game he does love) that he's not actually a space marine killing aliens.  they are just computer programs running a script.

...personally, i loved wii sports.  but hey, if you have no imagination you'll probably never have fun in life.

So far in 2008 there have been 21 third party games that received aggregate scores of 75% or higher (on gamerankings.com) whereas in 2007 there were only 14 of these games; with the games remaining to be released this year it is possible that the Wii will see 28 to 35 third party games with aggregate scores above 75%.

In 2009 we will (probably) see a similar improvement in third party efforts ... As a result I think it will become very difficult for people to continue saying "The Wii has no good games" or "My Wii is collecting dust" and to be taken seriously.

@Everstar: Hahaha I KNOW RIGHT! I've been trying to be more responsible with my spending, cause I had every console last gen(Dreamcast too) PLUS I PC gamed. Ish was too expensive, lol. But the games coming out now, PLUS the price of the 360 Arcade, I've been thinking about becoming a Wii360 owner. =$

@HappySqurriel: I agree, I think personally there isn't a problem with the Wii's line-up this holiday season, I think alot of PS3/X360 owners with Wii's are looking for those "Big Name" 3rd party titles.

Is this whole thing worth reading? I stopped after the "collecting dust" BS. How is it collecting dust for all the customers if it's consistently selling so much software? Especially when you factor in people like darthdevidem01 who only buy 3 games (the "hardcore" lowering the attach rate ). By that logic, there must be a ton of PS3's only being used as a Bluray player...

Oh, when I skimmed through I noticed he also claimed Wii Fit was brought out in response to the developers realizing the limited potential of the Wii Remote. Right...

If he wanted to give his opinion why he doesn't like the Wii as much as he could have, he should have done just that. Not try to pull BS out of his ass and claim they're facts.

As far as Morrison's post goes. The only thing that makes the Wii a "Failure" is that developers don’t take the time to make the use of the motion controls better.

They think just adding a waggle and button press is motion control, and they did this to existing games, because none of them put an interest into the Wii until it was kicking ass.

So they all jumped on to make a quick buck with their shitty ports and horrible motion controls. Developers are the only ones that should be blamed for Wii controls.

And what exactly does that make you with an elitist comment elevating yourself over others because their opinion is different from yours?

Unlike the author of the article I do find doing some tasks like opening doors to offer more immersion. My problem is when the accuracy of the wiimote goes wonky and doesn't read my motions accurately which completely breaks my immersion. In MP3 opening a door became a pain because it wouldn't recognize when I moving the wiimote forward and backwards. Same for the defibrillator in Trauma Center.

I understand that M+ will probably fix this but I can see how consumers might feel cheated that it didn't have the accuracy it needed out of the box. I can also see how that might be considered a failure. A successful product can be seen as a failure in some capacities.

These breaks in my immersion are generally the reason I don't rate the Wii much higher than Eyetoy games. They are fun but need to be a little more accurate before they can offer enough immersion to compete with regular titles. I wonder how Sony has improved the Playstation Eye?

P.S. I don't like Wii Sports that much. Bowling and Golf are okay but tennis and baseball bore me to death.
