X360 : Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Blue Dragon (and in multi : COD 4, GTA IV)

DS : Zelda PH

I think these 5 games will be the top contenders at the end of the year (from order of most likely to win to least):

1. GTA IV
2. Mass Effect
3. Halo 3
4. Mario Galaxy
5. Uncharted

 We don't know that for sure.

GOTY is so arbitrary... whose GOTY are we talking about? Wired? Joystiq? Otaku? IGN?

Well, slap me around and call me Shirley, but I think Hannah Montana will sweep *all* the awards.

I would actually love Zelda to win game of the year, not because it's a great, but because it's a handheld.

In all honesty though I think the contest for game of the year 2007 will be an incredible contest. All three consoles have some very big heavy hitters and they are all releasing around the same time. It will be interesting just to see what games make it on the ballet since they usually limit it to, what, 4?

And my personal list for what the 4 entrants will be in no particular order:

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
3. Mass Effect
4. Assassin's Creed

Mass Effect will probably win RPG of the year, and possibly GOTY.

If not ME, I think GTAIV will, as it's done very well for GOTY honors. SMG and SSBB will probably launch too late to get any solid honors, unless SMG is so vastly superior that they make the GOTY honors that late this year.

Either way, top 5 should have:

GTAIV
ME
H3
SMG
GOW2

GTA4 or CoD4, what was last years game of the year, i would of said Gears of War or oblivion?

I still don't think any Nintendo game will win game of the year for any site except a Nintendo one, graphics always plays a role in game of the year unless it is something that is just beyond anything else that came out this year.

Hoe can u give games that haven't yet been released 'the game of the year award'?

Mario / Halo / GTA etc might be crap.

We're just making predictions...they're all huge games from big developers...and we've seen a lot of Mario, the Halo multiplayer beta, and ...a couple trailers for GTA? So we know a bit about each game to make predictions.

I am worried about GTA's current state though...it sounds like it needed a lot of work after its closed-door preview...

And PS3owner, Wii Sports won game of the year on a TON of sites...so I don't think graphics are going to hold back Mario from winning awards...it looks great anyway.
