I think the thing working against Sony is not so much video games, but sales of TVs and cameras because of the economy.

you know ive thought about this, and would honestly like to see people on this forums reaction, and see if they are buying less this year. gas is going down, the dollar is gaining, despite the stockmarket. id like to see how many people here lost jobs or had to take pay cuts. or even reduced avalibel credit to themselves, im betting the number would be fairly low. thios pesimism around the economy seems to be effecting more people related to the market directly, traders, and people in the leanding bussiness, granted i expect it to have some effect on the economy, but not nearly as profund as some expect, unless you are trying to retire, you should be fine.

also on a seperate note, i expect the markets to rally no matter who wins the office of pres, just in reaction to someone new taking office, the market seems tired of bush.

No they still have something up their sleeves. I just know it and I know 2009 will be a year like no other for the PS3. Especially with the long anticpated releaase of God of War III.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

they just need a rpice cut, it depends on that, if it happens all will be ok, if not, they will reamin in third place but a very far away third. i dont think they will reach 30million this gen with that price, heck i dont think they'll even get to 24millions with that price. The ps3 needs to be US$300 for the 80gb model period.

I think gaming as we know it is done for, the HD consoles are really not selling the way they should be and all people really care about now is how much your console has sold, graphics, and the Wii.

Sony is trying to keep it real by giving gamers what they have been giving them for the past 16 years, Microsoft realizes that there is success in what Sony has been doing for 2 generations and decided to capitalize on it by beating Sony to the market first, and Nintendo said to hell with the mainstream let’s make this fun for everyone.

So here we are today, and I can guarantee that by the end of this gen the total units sold will be far less than what was sold last gen, which means the market is shrinking. Sony just needs a price cut and by law they have to turn a profit, which currently is their main focus, their 10 years plan puts them in a league of their own much like Nintendo did with the Wii.

lol to all those that think Sony's done for. IMO I think Xbox360 is done for if you think about it. Xbox360 has its huge success of XBL, large 'best library' of games (to many that claim), its low prices, and its 1yr head start...just to be what? a mere 5million consoles behind Sony's PS3? Seriously thats it?? Xbox360 seems more like its reaching its peak if you ask me. You ppl are funny loll.. wait til after this holiday and post a thread like this again.

I agree. The bonus of having BD is quite wasted until most people can't afford at least a 36" HDTV, and with the current situation most people will think twice before buying a new TV if the old one is still working. And most people still willing to buy new appliances, TV's included, will wait for clearance sales after Xmas.

Anyhow in this period before the start of Xmas sales, the pattern of WW consoles sales isn't very different from last year's same period's one, with XB360 anticipating sales with either price drops or blockbuster titles releases (wasn't Halo 3 last Autumn?):

Oh the irony, this reminds me of 2007, were people thought sony would discontinue the ps3.

Exactly,  Was it last year that we got NPD numbers where X360 sold 5 times more than PS3?...Everyone was like it is over for PS3!   After some months the PS3 was selling more than X360 and it was very quite....Now MS manage to sell more X360's than PS3's....And bam...Sony is done for again..

what like the constent xbox 360 has peaked and its done for thread, since january. i dont think its the end for either, but it does mean that the ps3 wont over run the 360 next year, beyond that whos to say

Worldwide the X360 sold less than they did last year in the first 8 months of the year and I think that is a good reason to say the X360 sales have peaked and looks to die.  It something sells less than it did a year before most people will conclude that it is not that popular anymore.  (Not that I think it is going to die soon).

While PS3 sales are a lot better WW compared to last year it is just a matter of wait and see what it will do next year.

your wrong, through 8 months last year it was 8086479 to 11173832 wich is 3087345. this year 16044623 to 20476409 which is 4431786  which shows improvment over last year and we arnt even including a price cut in this. do research before you post, oh and also last year there would be one month of price cut, where as 08s price cut took place latter, so this makes it look lie your point is even more bullshit

 It is VGCHARTZ fault!  Why are monthly chartz only from America X_X;

1st place is obviously out of the question.

And by judging by this years TGS, they don't seem to care for the Japanese audience anymore. I know WKS was shown and that FFXIII is coming, but no mention of TLR, FFVXIII, and the new announced games seem to be more western oriented, where the 360 is still stronger.

When you purposely exclude/discount all the games that can apply to the Japanese audience (as you just attempted), yes it will seem as if SONY doesn't care for the Japanese market.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

It's only the 2nd year of the PS3's life span and you are already making conclusions.
