Forums - Gaming Discussion - Limited PS2 compat for Europe PS3 units??

staticneuron said: I heard the compatability was more around 98%. Even as such it is rumored that the software emulation may help to render the PS2 games in HD.
The US/Japan console are at 98% but with the removal of the hardware Sony has said the BC is "limited" for PS2 games(Anyones guess till they release. My guess 70% to low 80% is software only Europe does not get the PS2 hardware in their PS3's. People seem to be implying on this forum that they are going to drop under what the 360 BC is at which is close to 30%.

Around the Network

Have to wait until we see some sort of list then. Its good for Sony (in terms of profit), but if the list isn't solid - this will generate heaps of bad publicity, and bite them in the butt. Another theory - this way they keep people buying PS2's for longer (if they want to play PS2 games). I would hope that the software solution supports at least GTA(s). God of Ware II/II, Singstar, etc. Those vector units in the PS2 can get pretty complex - simulating the exact timing in software is no easy feat.

I dont see what the big deal is. Most high seller titles are almost guaranteed to run, Sony would be stupid to exclude those. I reckon that the titles most likely affected would be the shitty, niche and those with narrow and limited markets. But then again, this is Sony after all, so we'll see. The fact that they havent released a list of titles thats not back-compatible is shitty on their part.

xtx said: Who cares? The backward compatibility issues are even worse for the 360,does the 360 sell well?Yes.Are you buying the ps3 to play next gen games or old gen games?People who are critisizing the ps3 in this thread are just 360 fanboys who should look at their own backward compatibility issues. "In a statement the company added that some additional titles would be made compatible through regular firmware updates--a similar setup as in the US, where initially some previous Sony format games experienced problems, but many were fixed through online updates for the console. The Japanese and American PS3s play an estimated 98 percent of the old games. The first update is planned for the European and Australian launch on March 23, and gamers can check out compatibility on Sony's Web site, which will go live on the launch date." http://www.gamespot.com/news/6166312.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;3[/quote] It part of a bigger problem. Sony can't keep treating us like crap.
