Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Class-action law suit against 360

A class-action law suit has been filed in Florida with regards to the 360 disc scratching issue. I think this was going to happen sooner or later but I find the timing strange given that MS has just increased the warranty on the 360 and given comp to anyone that had to pay for repairs.

I think the disc scratching is a seperate issue than the GPU overheating, isn't it? Could be wrong... Maybe these guys just want them to give a 3 year warranty for disc scratching also?

Actually, I believe the new warranty and reimbursement stuff just covers systems infected with the RROD. The disk scratching is something else. What's worse is that a whole lot of systems do it. I don't know if some of the disk drives have the feet to protect the disk, but many of them don't so even the slightest nudge on the 360 could potentially ruin a disk because the disks spin much faster than the disk drives of previous generation consoles. That has happened to my friend when he moved his 360 foward an inch because it was close to falling off of the stand where it was sitting and it ruined his Oblivion disk.

I wonder what's become of the thing in the UK where somebody was demanding the total amount of scratching rates (or was it RROD?).

It's definitely a different issue. And, the RROD isn't an overheating GPU/CPU ... it's a warping motherboard. The heat generated by all the parts makes the motherboard warp, which spells doom for the 360's innards (assuming you know how important a motherboard is to a computer).

Have fun suing Ms who's rolling in billions of $.

What if they have a case? Maybe they can get a juicy amount by settling out of court? Then again, I haven't dabbled that much into the legal stuff on this sort of thing.

No offense but the giant sticker on the 360 that says "Do not move unit while in operation" means just that. I can't believe that people are so shocked when you move a vertical player and it scratches the hell out of the disc.

Didn't we already go through this with the PS2?

Those court things suck. You sign up, and then a lawyer fights for you. The lawyer gets paid a trillion bucks, and you get $25 or a free xbox360 faceplate.

^^^^^Totally agree, these class action lawsuits do nothing more than earn lawyers a couple of million dollars and all a consumer gets is 10-15$ or something of even lower value.

Disk scratching issues are one of the stupidest things out there. The Xbox scratched alot of disks - so what? As long as they don't damage the games, its fine.

The X360 doesn't damage disks as long as its moved. Once it's moved, you've voided the way the X360 was built - not to be moved while in operation.

Even if MS lost, which is doubtful, what would they get? About $40 in free coupons for games?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
