Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii storage solution confirmed?...

Was just browsing some news sites and came across an interesting article over on Nintendojo.com...

Select Hotels to Include Wii Access
10/1/2008, 7:56am Eastern Time

"Nintendo, in a joint venture with Marriott & Renaissance hotels, have launched a pilot program that brings the Wii experience to hotel guests.

Guests who stay at select Marriott and Renaissance hotels will have the option to book a room with a Wii system for an additional fee. The package includes unlimited use of Wii for the entire stay.

Wii systems in the rooms are designed specifically for the hotels.  Guests will be able to access all of the games by simply pointing the Wii Remote and selecting the game they wish to play without requiring any disks.

Games included in the package are Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit and Wii Sports as well as 16 others. More games will be added as they become available."

Hmmm... custom Wiis that are apparently capable of storing TWENTY full games?  I wonder...

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

No.....I think other hotels (like Holiday Inn I think) used to have N64's that did the same thing....I think the hotel stores the games on something and you can play it with the console...Well I don't know exactly what they do but it's definately not the storage solution IMO...

They're in hospitals aswell.

You can find a video floating around youtube.

Edit: Here it is.

^^^ I want one!

Edit:  It still begs the question though.... if Nintendo and its partners can invest a ton of money to develop what is basically a huge HDD built around the Wii's architecture to play its games, why can't they simply...

A: Develop a custom USB flash drive or HDD for the Wii or...

B: Creat a firmware update that allows the Wii to read software directly off of SD cards?

I have a whopping total of 5 VC/WiiWare games and 3 downloadable channels on my Wii and I have roughly 41 blocks of memory left... that's pathetic!  I really am starting to wonder if Nintendo is purposely holding out on us for whatever reason, because there's really no excuse for the Wii's storage issues.

Looks cool, but maybe its just for the hotel?

Yeah, I believe that it's just for hotels too.

Hmm Im gonna jump on the boat and say this is hotel only.

AND HOSPITALS

Has to be some form of USB attached storage solution. Based on loading I would suggest its a HDD with a custom built OS to select games.

I think is EXTREMELY unlikely that Nintendo releases a storage solution before developing a way to slow piracy.
