Interesting thread.

Off and on, I've been trying to beat Phantasy Star 2 for Genesis. Absolutely perfec non-NES/SNES game. Quite possibly one of the best, most visionary RPGs of all time on a console.

Other than that, I'm thinking about downloading a ROM of Breath of Fire 2 to play. I have the BoF2 cart for my SNES, and it works, but I just hate the save systems on old JRPGs, that force you to save @ a town. Because of that' I never really beat it.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I've been playing thru Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force 3 for the Saturn.

Just beat the original Contra on NES, moved on to Super C and Contra III.

Nights (Saturn)

Yoshi's Island (SNES)

Super Mario RPG (SNES)

Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)

Those games hold up really well I think.

I guess there is quite a few classic gamers here, which is great to know. TheSource, I played SMRPG for the first time a few months ago and what a fun game it was. I agree that it holds up really well, considering I was free of the nostalgia of having played it as a kid and still had a blast.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

I never beat Donkey Kong 64, one of my all time favorite games. Let me clear some things up, I always beat every game I start, and I start alot of games. I like most any game, and not beating Donkey Kong 64, despite loving it sooo much, has haunted me for years.

I played through the whole damn game, but could never climb to the top in the Classic Donkey Kong game. (I already got the coin from the jetpack game) So, after lossing sleep for 6 years, I finally got back into it, playing it for 15 to 20 minutes a night trying to climb to the top of the tower. When I finally did it, I already knew I would only be rewarded with a banana, so I was ready to do it again.  It only took me 2 trys to get to the top the second time through (which is a little harder).  I then probably needed a dozen, if not more, trys to beat the final boss, but I did it.

I now feel relieved, and refreshed. I feel I could take on anything... I just wish Rare would make one more real Donkey Kong game, although I know they never will again because they broke away from Nintendo a few years back. Actually I think Nintendo broke away from Rare because.. basically because Rare doesnt make any games anymore.. Its too bad really.  I love Donkey Kong 64, and I have finally conquered it.
