let the thread die dude. It wouldn't work. Not only is the tech not in the PS2 for this to happen, but no one would buy it and no one would develop for it. Why develop for a system that has 0 install base and is only decreasing in sales? Let the thread die. It ain't happening.

I heard it will happen. My uncle works at Nintendo and he's very worried.
Please thread, just die.

Amazing.... The more we want this thread to die, the more we post about it, the more it continues to live...
I heard from a friend of my cousin`s girfriend that Nintendo is making a GBA that plays UMD and has online capabilities to kill the PSP. It will sell for U$ 29,99. IMO it is a great thing for Nintendo, GBA userbase is much bigger than PSP.

I can just see what people would say if this came true ...
"See even Sony thinks the Wii is cool!"
At this point in time Sony can not be successful with this strategy because either they will get some success and sell extra PS2 units (which could cut into PS3 sales), or they would fail and end up looking like copy-cats (which could cut into PS3 sales). If they released this immediately after E3 2006 months before the Wii was released they could have been successfull, now it is just a formula for failure.
As for the comments about "If only 10% of the PS2 userbase bought this add on ..." if you discount extra controllers and memory cards I doubt 10% of the PS2 userbase as bought any addon; an optimistic estimate would have the add on selling at a similar level as Guitar Hero which was fantastic for a game but would fall far short of ever becomming competition for the Wii.
Essentially, this strategy would be about as effective as Sony releasing a touch screen add on for the PSP in order to compete against the Nintendo DS; not only would it be ineffective it could damage their brand as everyone takes a moment to say "What kind of monkeys are running this company?"
shams said: Won't happen - it would surely hurt Sony too much (admitting Nintendo was right, Sony was wrong). Will damage the PS3, and boost Wii sales in the long term. - no existing games would support it - gfx on a PS2 SUCK compared to other consoles these days. It couldn't even handle a decent WiiSports type game. - sensor bar? Or would it have no pointer? With no pointer it IS a SIXAXIS controller (except for shape). ... Sony would be better off to release their own "PS3Sports", that purely uses the Sixaxis movement - maybe in a shell of some sort. Then they could promote the better gfx, better online play, more content, etc. |
Wait I thought the SMALL gfx difference wouldn't matter . PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME A WII owner cares about Graphics. I sure would like the folks at nintendo to bring up the graphical differences between the PS2 and the Wii.
