Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Editorial: Nintendon't Care About Hardcore?

The article states Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess didn't meet sales projections. Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess already massively outsold their predecessors and are still selling great.

This article FAILS.

Yeah, reading the comments saved me the job of reading that crap, thanks :D

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

meh i didn't read all of that because the first 6 parts i read were stupid

I, for one, agree with this article 100%. It amazes me how so many people keep defending Nintendo and its current line-up of games even though they are weak and casual.

Oh, and FYI, I have owned EVERY Nintendo console EVER released. This includes the Wii, which I traded it to get a PS3 metal gear bundle. I have supported Nintendo since 1985 with the original NES, but that time is over. I will never buy another Nintendo product EVER...

"If you don't like me, bite me!"

I'm amazed that the editor of a respected magazine would fail to overlook certain obvious errors. Most of his points have been reiterated by others ad nauseam.

It's obvious that humans tend to look at proportions and not absolute values. Just because Nintendo decided to cater more to the casuals, doesn't mean the absolute amount of stuff catered to the hardcore has dropped.

Oh well... That's just like saying how you feel abandoned by the Spanish Football Team that they won the Euro 2008 without Raul in the squad.

Honestly, it should be natural that Nintendo fans feel bad about themselves from 1996-2006 due to their favourite console being the absolute minority. Now that they have reclaimed the crown, you ought to "celebrate in the streets" with all those "newfound fans" (expanded audience), cheering at Nintendo as they wave their trophy onto the victory bus that passes by.

although he does make some interesting points, if nintendo wouldn't care about the hardcore there wouldn't be any more zelda, mario, metroid games in the future which is not happening.

Since the other points have been discussed so much, I'll bring up this little bit I found funny:

"9. Third-party publishers like Nintendo just the way it is

With an emphasis on younger players"

Loooolllllllll...........

That's one of the best analogies I have ever read on this forum.

Oh really? Heh. That is something I have thought about for a very long time about those long time Nintendo fans that claim that they stuck with the company for 20 years! I mean, the Spanish team hasn't won a trophy for 40+ years and that they finally did it, just like how Nintendo have been trailing for 10 years (which is a long time when gaming is concerned).

Of course, Wii critics like this Edge editor can be compared to critics of the Italian team that won the 2006 World Cup (especially those that claimed that their football was "not beautiful"!)
