My mobo can only support 2GB max so I was wondering how long till my PC is unable to play newly released games? A year? 2? I can't get a new computer as I bought this one last.

future-proof?
it's barely enough for today, my 1 year old ultra-portable laptop has 3GB

not future proof at all, ram is very cheap just get 4 gb for now
edit : just get 2 gb ram for now if you dont want to change your mobo, but you will have to change the mobo eventualy, 2gb will be enough for games that are out now, i have 1gb and i can play most latest games fine on medium
When I say future-proof, I mean able to play the games that will be release in the future, not in comparison to other computers as I stated in the post. Don't people read?
^ then its it is not future proof, i would suggest you upgrade your mobo, get cheap one that supports more ram

again, my non-gaming laptop has that many ram and I can't even play games on it, how do you even manage to play video game today???
an extremely dumb question to ask about ram, when the most important part is the video-card. If you are going to cheap out on ram itself... don't play PC games.. Get a console, it's cheaper in the long run.

^ laptops are not very good at games because they have weak graphic cards, so its not because of your ram
are you running DDR2 or DDr3?
It'll suffice for many games today, albeit not at the highest settings. But if you want to "keep up" with PC gaming, you'll need moar moar moar, and that includes your RAM. Don't worry too much, though: if you're okay with medium settings, you'll probably be fine for a while yet. Just don't expect things to look as nice as they do on the box.
Nothing is future proof. 2GB is not much RAM.
