Forums - Gaming Discussion - Whats so "fun" about the wii?

Yes, fun is subjective....personally, I don´t find motion controls such a revolutionary thing....while it does improve some type of games, such as RE4 and FPS games, it´s not such a make or break deal, as far as I´m concerned, that I go nuts because have to play RE5 with dual analog controllers.

One thing though, and I must be in the minority...more intuitive interfaces might mean we´re headed for virtual reality a few generations from now, and I´m not sure I´m fond of the idea, but that´s just me.

It not just you. I'm perfectly fine holding a traditional controller and have no interest in virtual reality

i don't know how to explain to someone why i have fun.. it brings a smile to my face and the faces of others when we play.. i have no idea why that happens.. maybe the games are good

...

also @OP, i like how you can only come up with wii music right after you say "wii owners are the ones who claim to have fun" even though not one wii owner has played wii music, let alone said it was fun to play it.. if you can come up with an actual example, then people may be able to reply with more substance

@twesterm - If you´re talking immersion, to me nothing beats a great story. FFVI, for example, since it´s a game we both love. If you don´t mean that, explain better cause I don´t understand.

It's fun because it's fresh and tries to get you into the game more (that whole immersion thing).

It was fresh in 2006...somewhat fresh in 2007. Today its just another control scheme pattern used by games...to me atleast.

Much like absolutely everything that is discussed on this site, the concept of "Fun" games is really poorly defined ... What I think most people mean is that the games are much more accessable, the games are dramatically more focused, and the enjoyment of these games is high much earlier on with far less investment.

With many games (across all platforms) they expect you to complete a long (and boring) tutorial mode where they focus on teaching you the complicated controls of the game, and establish the story; and after you begin the game they expect you to spend hours performing dull tasks until you finally get the opportunity to do something actually enjoyable.

Even that statement is subjective. Case in point: I was extremely excited after just wacthing the intro scene in mgs4. Also, JRPG-control schemes usually don't get much beyond pressing the "x" button to take action and pressing "triangle" or "circle" to view your menu (sorry for the control bias...my sig tells it all lol). Is that hard?

What gene do you enjoy and what is your current library?
Regardless of consoles, people normally complaining lack of games because they don't actually buy those games.

Check out my game collection. Those are the games I currently own but I've sold a whole bunch. I primarily enjoy JRPGs and some fighting series but I've been branching out more in the 7th generation.

We're talking about different types of immersion but nonetheless I totally agree that a great story/characters also bring great immersion.

@OP
This is a bit rude. You don't get it. Your question is from a very closed limited scope of perspective. I'm sure your not, but habits and concepts get set into place that can take some time to get over.

Your having fun right? good
Give COD to your Mother and ask her to have fun. Did she? very unlikely, unless you have that rare mom.
So your saying that she can't have video game fun becuase Nintendo's direction doesn't equal your fun and Nintendo needs to stop allowing other people to have fun? Is that fair to your mom? Seems like your viewing things from a self interest view.

I don't see capcoms Dead Rising Wii going to appeal to you mom anymore than Dead Rising for 360. So if Nintendo wants to make some games for your mom, so that maybe she will try out Mario Kart and easy to get into racer. Is that so wrong?

Did Nintendo say you can't have fun the way you want it? umm no.

As for controls. I prefer the idea of gesture or waggle mapping. dash up with chuck=jump. dash left/right, jump left/right. point down/crouch. The motion mapping the mind is more natural than button mapping the mind.

Anyways this question is tiring.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

did anybody see e3 on g4 and the new wii game no graphic its a dark screen and you move around till you hook up then by shaking your wii mote the sparks fly with your partner.

all these howlings and grunts are going on in the back ground!

I wonder how many levels are in this game????

wtfart I dont see how ninty let this one get thru maybe they will bundle it.

I am totally cereal yours truly MBP.

It only feels like that because we still haven't had many mind blowing things, mainly only things of people not taking huge risks.  It will start to feel better as more developers (like High Voltage with Conduit for example) start doing more.  Even though FPS games have been done on the Wii, they're still fresh because we've had this standard for so long and games like Metroid Prime 3 and Conduit (hopefully) change that.
