Forums - Microsoft Discussion - FFXIII for X360 how many discs will it need?

ChronotriggerJM said:
f they want the SAME experience as the PS3 version, and IF the PS3 version fills up the full 50 gigs, realistically I'd say 8 disc's.

The 360 DRM allows about 7 gig per disc, and on multi-disc games you need to have the game's engine on each disc, I'll assume that takes up about a gig of space, giving around 6 gigs of data per disc. 50/6 leaves room for 8 discs. That's if they want the same quality audio, same resolution FMV, and IF SE takes up the full 50 gigs.

Sorry but you don't know what are you talking about, a game engine just take a few Megabytes...

On topic: 3-4 disk... 5 tops...

DVD9 Holds 8.4GB. And it's not enough to just assume that it's 50GB then divide it by 8.4GB. There is data from the game that has to be reprinted on multiple discs, such as certain character models, lighting affects, etc... Stuff that will be in the game at all times. We don't know how much GB's the game itself is so there is no point in guessing now. And also

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/890/890359p1.html

In that article it states that they plan on compressing prerendered cutscenes and audio amongst other things when it's time to transfer from BluRay to DVD's.

1 Thing that I like about that article is that they state there will be NO delay to the release of the game.... I hope that's true...

All the talk about disk swapping? FFXIII won't even reach the size of mgs4. Anyone wanna bet?

I conclude this because the ff's on PS2 didn't make it beyond 1 dvd when even xenosaga ii and iii had 2 dvds each. Why do we think ffxiii has so much content again?

I'm not defending the 360 version. I just don't think the number of disks are a valid arguement against it. The disks won't even exceed 4. Like I said before, only those who need wii fit will care about disk swapping!

i'm playing LOD right now and have swapped disks....big deal?

On a more realistic note, FFXIII sales
360 - 3.7 million life time - 3 million america, 0.70 million others, No release in Japan
PS3 - 5 million lifetime - 2 million america, 1 million in others, 2million in Japan
Hardware boost for Japan - 150k 1st week, 100k second week, 70 k third week.
From there on, 40k per week for 4 months

Your predictions.... nothing more......

Well since FFXII was only on one DVD, I'm betting that FFXIII will be able to be compressed and put on one DVD. However, on the PS3 version it will be uncompressed since it is on Bluray.

I think most of you are just being stupid.

EDIT: ok, MAYBE, 2 discs. But, that is the max.

My guess is 6, maybe more. It all depends on the size of the game.

One DVD disc holds 7GB of data on it. So if FF XIII game is 50GB, 8 discs will be needed.

Check your facts again, friend.

My guess is that 15 seconds spent swapping discs will take less than 8 minute installs between acts where you can learn about how you don't have to swap discs.  That was the funniest, and most embarrassing thing about MGS 4.

Frankly, I think that if they use the extra GPU power the 360 has compared to the PS3 to give 360 owners some improvements, then switching discs once or twice throughout what will probably be a 60 hour game would be well worth it.

MGS4- 8 Minute Install from start.
           1-3 Minute Install between Acts.

Check YOUR facts!

And please show me just how much "GPU power" the 360 has over the ps3? I'm just asking for some proor is all...

I was going to fix that :P

Still I agree that the compression will play a interesting role...

FF12...... Did you even play that game??? Do you know the difference in length between FF12 and FF13?? Doubt you played FF13 to know that. Do you see the difference in visuals??? And also FF12 was just a 480i game, FF13 will undoubtedly be atleast 720p Native. You can't compare a last gen and a current gen game in terms of space and compression when you notice  the many techincal differences between the 2.....

This doesn`t matter, 90% of FFXIII sales will be on PS3.
PS3 version will take ~50GB.

x360 version will be downgraded. So it could end like with 4 discs.

Wow ... I'm getting Deja-Vu ...

For some reason I'm getting the feeling that I saw similar posts from this poster involving a couple little games called Devil May Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4.

I have a question, do all games need to be designed for the Xbox Arcade(harddriveless)?

If not then 1-3 disks. With at least one of the disks being an install disk. You guys think they need over 21GB, or even 14GB, of space?? For what may I ask. I'd like to know if they are actually filling blu-ray disks. I'm going to say that if they are filling them they are putting completely uncompressed data on them, which is unnecessary (think mp3, mpg4).
