Only model to be offered in the US once stock is cleared Sony's Peter Diller tells Gamespot.

This afternoon, Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president of marketing Peter Diller answered several of the lingering questions about the new 80GB PS3. First, the $399 model will soon be the only one offered by Sony in North America, with all other models--including the 40GB bare-bones model and the Metal Gear Solid 4 $499 80GB DualShock 3 bundle--being phased out. Dille said Sony has already ceased shipping the 40GB to stores, and is letting the remaining stock of the console clear itself out of the retail channel. He said Sony had no price cut akin to Microsoft's $50 discounting of the now-discontinued 20GB Xbox 360.

Can’t really say I didn’t see this coming, but a little earlier than I thought. Probably a good time to start hunting.

He didn't say anything about emulation or imply it, not that I'm saying you did, but some have. Nor have I seen any any reliable information that emulation is even on the horizon. Hope only gets you so far.

The PS3 still has years to live, wonder what versions they'll make next.

All the PS3 systems still play over 3000 PS1 games, that sure sounds like no BC....

That's sad.... I wonder how much that will play a factor in somebody buying a PS3.

either they are getting ready for 160 Gb PS3 with BC for holidays,,,,


or maybe software backward compatibility,,,cause if they have achieved the programing then the will use it for all SKU's

The only thing I took out of the announcement of this is one sad fact

PS3 games will continue to keep having big installs for the upcoming games

^^^^or the video store is opening from tonight and the only way people would consider buying movies from store is directly related to HDD size.
