we will likely see a price drop when the production cost falls about fifty dollars or so. Sony probably has a limit now as to how much they're willing to front with each system. The price of oil believe it or not isn't helping matters for any of the game companies to lower prices.

mabye a price drop after they get a lot of money from the hot exclusives like resistance 2, the two final fantasy games and god of war 3 and killzone 2 are released.

Do I think Sony SHOULD drop the price of the PS3? A price drop of $100 would put the PS3 at a price where more people would be willing to buy it, and would result in a moderate increase in sales ...

Do I think Sony CAN drop the price of the PS3? Between the launch of the PSP and PS3 Sony has lost all the money they made with the Playstation and PS2, and if they drop the price further (and see extended losses) their shareholders should get rid of the CEO ...

Sony has a bigger install base, much bigger first party titles, and an online store that actually works especially with the addition of the video store.

$50 price drop WW can be offset and it will do wonders for Sony's first party software numbers this fall and next spring.

Or they can offer Bravia deal like they are doing in Australia but this time on WW scale?

The gen is over and Sony should focus on being profitable so they some money to spend on getting things right for the next gen. Nothing can be gained from taking even more losses on the PS3 when it's impossible to catch the Wii now.

Do you work for Sony?...I dont think so, so why do you care about them losing money...as long as I have my PS3. I wouldnt care if they all lost money, all that's important is playing the games and the way I see it, the more people, the merrier.

They do not need to drop the price. If they could add backwards compatiblity to the 40 gig that would be the equivalent of $100 drop. They need to focus on adding services, improving third party relationships, and getting their first party titles to market. Sony is in a good position because they are outselling the 360 at a significantly higher price level.
