Forums - Sony Discussion - SOCOM delayed until October 14th

From http://socom.us.playstation.com/Gate.aspx

quote: Hello again.

It's been a very busy time for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. We recently achieved Alpha, we held the big SOCOM: Confrontation Media Day outside of Vegas and now we are preparing for E3 and crunching hard to get the game to Beta and beyond.

Unfortunately, even working late into the nights and every weekend, we've had to re-evaluate our schedule. Our top priority is delivering the best SOCOM online experience possible. Tough decisions had to be made and we've decided to push back the release date to October 14th, 2008. We just had to face the facts and do what is best for the title. Rather than sacrifice features, quality and stability, we had to do the right thing and re-adjust our schedule.

This was a very tough decision for us to make as it means that the team will be working more late nights and weekends ahead before the game is released, not fewer. However, we absolutely feel that we need to deliver the best SOCOM online experience possible; you deserve no less.

Coffee and pizza donations are welcome :).

Sony also apologized:

quote: As I am sure you are all aware by now, Confrontation has been delayed. Now that we have made the Official announcement on SOCOM.com, I can talk about it.

I know some of you are very upset and angry over this. I can only apologize on behalf of everyone here and tell you that no one on the team is happy that it had to be delayed. It's just that these things are unavoidable sometimes. No matter how well you plan, things come up or need to be changed. It's one of those things where it's just not ready until it's ready. But I can assure you no one is slacking and everyone is working hard to get the game done, make it the best it can be and get it out the door to you. That's always the goal.

I know there is nothing I can say to make this better and some of you are going to be upset and angry no matter what. I understand. I just ask that you try to keep the flaming and bashing to a minimum and don't be too hard on the team and the mods here. It's an upsetting time for all of us.

And finally, after this announcement, you now know the Beta has not started yet. That's what we are working towards. Hopefully, it will be soon. But again, it will be done when it is done and the team is working as hard as they can to get it there.

Once again, I apologize for the delay. Just please know that it was not something that was decided lightly and we feel bad about it, too.
5 Kudos! Thanks!

> So what do people think? Big loss or right in time for the holidays?

Well, this isn't very satisfying. Still, it just shows that they're putting some care into the game, so that's reasuring.

Thanks for the reply. Not a big delay then.

From what i remember last year they said that Socom was a holiday release, so its about 10-12 months late.

Not a big deal at all. Titles almost always are delayed to some extent.

It's when days turn into months I start to worry... aka Haze... Splinter Cell Conviction, Too Human, etc.

Lets hope the game turns out good after this, now they have delayed it i am expecting more out of the game

should we comment ....... i think... no.
