@Frodaddyg,

I think WT might actually succeed in blowing some folks away, have a look:

IGN First Look: http://wii.ign.com/articles/882/882958p1.html

It is an article for the Wii version but it sounds like it will be the same across all consoles. Its worth a full read.

Yeah, I made a thread about the Game Informer cover feature awhile back. It listed the new features. They seem to be copying Rock Band and improving upon most aspects of it. I hope Rock Band keeps up or stays ahead with most aspects, but this youtube-like sharing of created songs in GH4 seems like it'll be the deal breaker for a lot of people. I think as frodaddyg says, though, that already having a large userbase of Rock Band bundle owners and coming out fairly soon might help balance that out.

Yeah I pretty much agree with all of this.

RB owners already have a large investment and the WT features will have to be fleshed out enough, lik eFrod said, to "wow" him into wanting to spend even more cash. For an existing RB owner I definitely don't think its a clear cut choice, its the GH and especially Wii owners who have a "no-brainer" so to speak right now..but even that might change if Harmonix announces some new features for RB2 that we don't know about yet.

Yeah, I agree with you guys. Also, I think we'll get a lot clearer picture of RB2's full upgrades and features at E3 when the official unveiling happens.

As I said in my last post, I think not having vocals in the created songs is a giant letdown. I'm primarily the vocalist when I'm playing with my friends (although I'm also the best guitar player of the group. ;) It's just no one else can sing a lick.) so the idea of all these possibly cool songs that I can't play with all the parts is quite disheartening. I do love the concept of song creation and sharing, I just think it's painfully incomplete if it doesn't let you create songs for a "full band".

My understanding is that it might be possible to add keys to the vocals track. If you could type out a song and still have the person have to hit notes, then you could copy the song completely. If that's not the case, then it does detract from it. The GH crowd will still love it, though, since all they cared about before was Guitar.

If the Wii version is as gimped as RB1 they may take a huge beating from GH: WT.

Well yeah, on Wii. You can tell by this forum that many Nintendo fans hate Rock Band and are waiting half a year for GH4.

If they announced that they would be putting any effort at all behind the Wii version, and gave them access to the DLC for Rock Band it might be able to keep up despite the established user base and despite the extra features. I bet that they will do another half-assed gimped port, and give the single largest platform away to their competitors though. I hope they don't but I am not feeling positive about it.

Its not that the Nintendo fans on this forum hate Rock Band. It is that they hate half-assed gimped for no reason ports. They also get riled up when developers shamelessly lie to them about the reasons the port was half-assed and gimped. Rock Band is just not that good a game on the PS2/Wii, and Guitar Hero 3 was a good game on the Wii. Now GH4 is coming out and is quite clearly what Rock Band should have been, but wasn't due to laziness. The guys at Harmonix absolutely deserve the ill will from Nintendo fans observed on this forum. Rock Band is a great game on the systems they tried they put some effort into.

On the subject of Vocals for the user-created content I think the reasoning is completely non-technical and it sounds like they wanted to add it in there but the legal department killed the idea.

The problem is that if you have people taking audio clips from existing material (ie material they don't own the rights to) and adding it to remixes or even custom songs. Then that song utilizing a famous singer's work is being distributed and supported by the GH software. All of a sudden they are swimming in legal headaches.etc...

It will eventually be done once the legalities of it are all sorted out but I highly doubt it will be included in this next round of releases.

Rock Band is still a better game than GH3 on Wii, because vocals/drums are better than online play. Also, that song pack is coming out soon. It's not near as good as DLC but it's better than what GH3 is doing on Wii.

So now Rock Band is going to try do the user-generated content that World Tour is going to do.

Come on, be more original, try your own stuff instead of copying each other and better yourselfs.

@windbane: You can say it all you want, but RB on Wii sucks. I'd preffer to buy GH3 and have a compatible guitar than buy RB.

Ok, then you don't like vocals or drums, which are far more like the actual thing. Not to mention 4 players at a time. Rock Band on Wii doesn't suck any more than GH3 on Wii. Neither have DLC. Btw, what do you mean compatible guitar? Both games have guitars that are compatible wit the next game. Gh4 is already adding a new feature, though, so it'll be compatible but not fully-featured.

I'm surprised more people aren't upset that RB2 is a timed 360 exclusive. I think that they are trying to beat GHWT out to retail, but this could hurt) in "Others". Europe prefers the PS3 and this gives Activision a big opportunity in that region. And with Wii owners worldwide.

BAM! There it is!
