Um you do realize that none of those became a sucess except guitar hero. And guitar hero had nothing to do with the ps2 specifically except being released on it. Also montana already showed prove that the market didn't expand significantly, because the ps2 sales weren't that much pass the ps1s, and the market didn't increase that much compared to the previous generation. The wii is expanding the market more with games such as wii fit, and wii sport becoming very successful, and people such as grand parents and parents getting into gaming. The ds also did this.

Ok, so the ps2 sold 120 million to consumers

Wii sold 28 million

The wii expanded the market how exactly? If you go by your theory that would mean the wii needs to pass 120million to expand the market.

 

You don't understand what "Expanding a market" means do you.

It has little to do with actual numbers sold... and everything to do with demographics.

By that logic that's like saying PS2 didn't expand the market because the NES did.

Also there were a few genres PS2 didn't rule in. Most noticeably platformers and simulation games. First Person Shooters could be argued too.

The last console to dominate all genres was the NES. (Master System had better SRPGs the SNES... in America anyway... Japan was up for grabs.)

Once again NES is greater then all using the suggested criteria.

i don't really care if wii outsells ps2 or not as long as wii gets good support, but it will be amazing achievement by nintendo if they do it
