Forums - Sony Discussion - MGS4 80GB PS3 already dead ? --flashing red light, just got this 6/12!!

1 beep = software shutdown (normal)
3 beeps = hardware shutdown (this can be bad if it happens often)
Green light = ON
Solid red light = stanby
blinking red light = shuting down
yellow light = hardware failure.

IF your constanly getting blinking red lights its means your PS3 is shutting itself down for some reason... it could be that the fan is broken, the system is overheating or some random problem has occured. Since it keeps repeating send the console back to SONY...

IF a yellow light occurs then send the PS3 back to SONY -- this is hardware failure. Im not sure what models have yellow lights though. Getting hardware failure on PS3 is extremly rare...

Look on the bright side TC -- atleast your console quickly. The reason the RRoD is a problem for 360 is that it seems to happen at any time... PS3 and Wii (and newer 360's) either die quickly or will last quite a while (with a small number of exceptions)

You know, to all of you saying that the OP is lying, perhaps you should not be so hasty to write this off as a troll attack - this includes those of you insinuating false claims with phrases such as "if you are telling the truth".

When my PS3 stopped reading discs, I DID ask a similar question in the SONY forums, and I was instantly labled as an X-Bot and a troll. Well, I did send it in and it was repaired. Still, why are some people so quick to dismiss these posts. The PS3 can fail just like every other piece of electronics.

I swear some people here must own some serious stock in Sony Corp. or something, otherwise this is just sad.

If you are telling the truth, just go and exchange it. PS3 (and Wii) has a defective rate of 2-3%, so it might be one of those.

But on the other hand, the writing isn't totally without a certain trolling attitude...

Lost my faith in VGChartz. Too many stupid and ignorant Americans, even as moderators.

It's a shame, really. "The Boss" should do something radical about this Americanization, but it seems hardly feasible, so my days here are numbered.

Yeah, I am one of the 12 or 13 people that has had their Wii go out on them. (And a 360) PS3 never broke, but it wasn't very easy to get it working with my Wifi.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

you will need to send it in.  the exact same thing happend to mine, with the exception that i didnt play it on a hot day.  i had my MGS4 bundle ps3 for 3 days, less then 10 hours of powered on time (plugged into an APC battery backup even) and i came home form work, tried to turn it on, and just get flashing red.  it will not eject either.  2 of the guys i work with got ps3's on the same night i did, from different walmart stores, and they had the same issue, we are all waiting for our shipping boxes now.  i have a 360 thats never had a problem, and i have a ps3 for 3 days and it dies. just my luck.

This guy sounds more trolling than the first post

A. 1 post count

B. Mentions 2 other people who just so happen to have similiar problems

C. Mentions 360.

Your last paragraph makes this seem like a cheap shot at the PS3.

But if its true, I dont know what you can do.

There is no such thing as a beeping red light..but..are you sure you conected it to your tv properly?

Seems like anything people say about the PS3 pisses you off or something.

Back to topic, you should contact Sony for the problem. People in forums can't help you. You can probably return it to Amazon.

I agree with Leo-J, certain aspect of your story sounds like you were taking low blows to a console you JUST happily purchased.

You know what? Take a picture, with a sign of your SN to your broken PS3, and we will believe you

Defensive much?

I'd probably take low blows at a piece of hardware that failed on me after two weeks too....no matter how excited I was about purchasing it.

I haven't had any major issues with any of my consoles except an early 360 RROD.  iPods on the other hand I've had 3 fail on me for various reasons over the last couple years. I still buy them but I'm quick to throw a cheap shot at them every once in a while too :P

To the OP: Sucks to hear your story. I know how much it hurts to be without your system especailly after getting a new game.  My 360 RROD'ed a week after I bought Bioshock. It was a sad day indeed.

People arent weary beacuse his Ps3 died they are questioning his motives by what he is saying

Examples:

So much for Sony superiority.

DAMMIT!!  Shoulda just upgraded my computer ...

I am also less forgiving as this is not a launch day system--the PS3 has now been out for about 18 months!

You all are sick. Why are you all so uptight?

"I mean, sure, it's messy, it's crowded, it's polluted, and there are people who would just as soon step on your face as look at you. But come on! There's gotta be a few sparks of sweet humanity left in this burned-out bird."

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

When I purchased my first HDTV it was a Samsung 40" 1080p LCD set.  I spent close to $1500 at the time.  As soon as I got the brand new TV home I hooked up my X360 and noticed the colors were all screwed up.  A technician came out that week and low and behold I had a bad HDMI port on the TV.  I returned the TV to Best Buy for an identical model.  Got that home and guess what?  2 dead pixels stuck blue on the screen.  I was understandably pissed and said things a lot less polite then he did.  I don't have a Samsung set in my house anymore either.

Moral of the story?

I don't blame him for one bit for the cheap shots.  I just find it hilarious people are so defensive about their "console of choice" they have to deride somebody who is having legitimate problems.  Maybe I'm not so cynical that people have hidden motives out to damage the reputation of your favorite console but I could give a rats ass if somebody wants to vent their frustrations on a bad system whether it be from MS, Sony, or Ninty.

June 12th wasn't long ago, screw calling sony, sending it off, having it fixed etc. Just goto the store you bought it in, most stores have a garentee on electronics, whether it's money back or replacement. If need be ask for a replacement.

Hmm, pie.
