Forums - Sony Discussion - Is The Playstation 3 Really Doing That Bad?

Hey, The PS3 IS beating stand-alone BR players. That's something....

Oh, wait. They are now $100 cheaper than PS3...

I guess the PS3 still has a chance against the GBA...

Actually, I read some retailers like Target are dropping the GBA, so the PS3 has a chance!

Well, does that mean the SP and Micro as well, or just the original?

You missed the point. Does it have to be the Wii? No. Again, like I said, if Average Joe A can have fun with any one game on any of the three consoles, which do you think he's going to pick? Why pick the PS3 when the 360 has games he'd have fun with at 200 dollars less? I stated it as if all these choices are initially entirely equal. Each has a game that Joe A can get behind. Perhaps Motorstorm on PS3, or Forza 2 / Gears on 360, or Wii Sports on the Wii. All starting equally, say Joe A doesn't like anything else in the Wii's library or Sports isn't as fun as Motorstorm/Forza 2 might be to him, so he passes on the Wii. Now, between the remaining two choices, what is there that's going to draw Joe A directly to a system 200+ more than the other system, if he likes these two games equally?

Edit-

Besides, I'm talking more directly towards casuals or new/non-gamers who might not expect the same things out of games that many of us expect from them, because we're gamers, and we've been gamers for awhile. Like I said, there's no bad choices if you like what it has to offer, my statements are more to prove why I believe the system will be the 64/GC/Xbox of this generation.

I did ASSuME about the Wii, just that the way your argument presented seemed heavily "graphics not important" based. I do see what you mean, especially if you're talking about a new/non traditional gamer, that if you want something the family can play inside a budget, then you can "get your Wii on" <-- Copyright ;) LOL or maybe a more mainstream gamer that has certain expectations of gaming, like intense graphics, etc. you'd drift towards a 360. I still think that they are a VERY large number of gamers, mostly with PS2's, that have yet to bother upgrading, because their personal reason hasn't arrived yet, whether it's GT5 of MGS4 or FF13, whatever. Or some, like my brother, got a Wii to have a different gaming experience but is just waiting for his game of choice, Kingdom Hearts, gets announced. I used gets announced b/c if it does fall to the Wii, then he'll just wait till he can afford a PS3, but if he KNOWS that it will be on a PS3, then he'll accelerate his purchase so he can check out the other games till then. Either way, I am positive that I'll absolutely love the next few years of gaming regardless whether headless corporation A "wins" or not

And GBallsack, manhunt 2 is a PS2 port, RE4 plays like shit on the wii, and so does Red Steel, and the other two are just fighting games. I was referring to MGS4, Lair, LA Noire, FFXIII, Uncharted, Gran Turismo5, GRAW2, EndWar, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, GTAIV, none of which will EVER frolick on over to your Wii.

BTW, if you don't get get the same emotionally charge when gaming that you get while at least watching movies, for me it is much more so, b/c I'm the one that is there, doing whatever they hell it is that I'm doing, it doesn't seem like the effort is worthy. I might as well watch TVLand if all I want to do is laugh.

RE4 plays badly on the Wii? That would be contrary to just about every review I've read.

Like I said, I was talking more about the common consumer, and not so much a typical gamer. Trying to keep a mainstream gamer happy is like trying to appease Democrats and Republicans on a national matter. No matter how hard you try, there is always going to be some asshats that sit around, pouting about this or that. And I'm rather glad the markets don't listen to these people.

Again, doesn't matter which side you prefer (Hell, if I had my choice and the money, I'd have all three just so I could check out some fun games on them. Not likely to happen.) so long as you have fun with your decision. It's not like Genesis fans didn't have fun with games merely because their system got beat by Nintendo, or Nintendo fans didn't have fun with GC games because they lost to PS2. Real fans have fun, fanboys just open their mouths to smart off.

Edit- My 'graphics are less important' was in response to someone acting like a list of games, just because they look good, is going to magically fix slumping sales. Those games also have to appeal to someone who doesn't already own a PS3 to improve sales. They have to play well. And they have to sell that current pricetag as a good investment in future games.

I really dont see how RE4 on the wii could play like shit - its not an FPS, you know that, right?

Looks like about 80% Nintendo boys vs. 20% Sony boys, with one or two M$ boys.

For Nintendo Boys: Both your DS and Wii are doing great. I know you feel good about this after the lat 2 generations of Sony domination. But, I'm not about to go take my PS3 to the trash.

For Sony Boys: The system isn't doing all that great. Sony does need to do a price and push the games planned out the door.

As for me, I've had every Nintendo system except for the Wii. Right now, I'm overlooking the whole media hype about it and waiting for good games like SMG, for example. Just as much as games should not only be about the graphics, games should not only be about the controller. And thus far, that's what I'm seeing with the Wii.

The PS3 has the best future lineup out of all the systems IMO. I could care less for FPSs, so I never did get the M$ console. But that might change with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Trusty Bell, and Cry On. However, I am waiting for 65nm to kick in.

I like Blu-ray, I notice a big difference between DVD's and Blu-ray... So Sue Me!!! Lol.

I can agree, PS3 failures are blown a bit into proportion. But it's not doing successful either. It's doing alright for a $600 system.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

sorry, I was overstating about RE4, from what I understand the controls feel like they are there just for the sake of being there... if that makes any sense.

Really?  I've read great things about the controls.  The last podcast I listened to (I think it was the IGN one) claimed they melded into the game well, and if anything their biggest problem is they were too good and made the game a bit easy.  I wouldn't buy the game a second time if I still had my Gamecube copy, but I loaned it out to a friend a year ago and never got it back, so rather than pay 20 to replace it I'll pay 30 to get it for the Wii, especially with all reviews calling it the definitive version, even if not necessarily better.  It's got all the extra PS2 content without the downgraded graphics.
