This is something i imagine everyone has thought about at one stage or other, but imagine a MMORPG based on the world of pokemon. An entire planet crawling with wild free pokemon, the freedom to go anywhere and catch whatever pokemon you like, visiting towns and cities alike, battling gym leaders, stumbling across other players in the middle of nowhere who challenge you to battles, online competitions in stadiums around the planet (could run like the pokemon stadium games). I just imagine walking around veridian forest when i suddenly see a articuno in the sky and going "holy sh!t". Getting to a pokecentre and telling people (probable response would be "yeah right...") Just a full 3d pokemon world crawling with life and other people who all have the same ideas as me. Makes me drool about the thought of it, would be quite possibly the biggest game of all time considering the appeal of pokemon and the fact that the mere concept of it is great.

Dear God Nintendo, make this happen, if it was good i dont think id ever stop playing it. Would be endless fun.

Yeah, they would make good money surely since MMOs are doing well now and Pokemon is popular too, I would prefer it to the normal Pokemon games.

Heck i love the pokemon games, owned everyone of them (or at least one iteration of the same game, i.e Blue) but this would be something else. I understand that the idea for the game has been thrown around by Nintendo for a while now (Diamond/Pearl shows a step closer to this title in my eyes) but hardware limitations have prevented it from ever being made. I just cant see it being made for the wii sadly, would love for it to be done so but i think for the sheer mass appeal and size of it, the wii would struggle to cope.

Ever since the first time I played a Pokemon game, and when I was into Pokemon many many years ago I have dreamed about how good this would be...

I would love for them to employ Nintendo staff to 'work' as the Gym leaders so you actually get to battle against REAL people for the pokemon badges...

Oh man it would be the most amazing thing...

Too bad I'm completely sick of Pokemon now and don't give a crap about them any more.

However... this is a game I would play.

If Nintendo made it, their profits would double.

Would love to slap Nintendo senseless into making this game. Profits WOULD double, agreed, sales of all things Pokemon would increase tenfold and i could easily see it outmatching any singular game for sales. Shame Nintendo dont read these sites :(

The only down side is many would never beat a team. The developers and other staffers take full advatage of the Pokemon they have. Fire Gyms would suck. All of the fire pokes(or most) learn Solaar Beam and Ninetails learn the grass move Energy Ball. Ouch. Computer AI might be better there.

Of courser the idera would be great. I kind would like it if they waited another generation. We're short 7 pokemon of 500. I say pass 500 and you're good(which would be about 600 since maost generations add 100+ pokemon). Actually, 600 would be amazing for an MMO. They also needs a few more Evos. Delacatty and Farfetch'd expecially but some others come to mind(Chatot, Ditto, Sableye, Mawile and maybe Pachurisa). Of course the game would be amazing. Pokemon is kind of begging for one. Just beware of the EV trained Salamace and the Baton Pass Smeargel.

don't be so quick to conclude that this idea hadn't gone through Nintendo.
I am pretty sure they keep in touch with the gamers more closely than we think.
How else can they dominate sales? :)

Pokemon MMO might just happen in a few years.
I think they are having trouble finding ways to spend all those money atm.

A few things though, would everyone start off in the same location in order to progress through the gyms in a similar way to the handheld Pokemon games or will player be given the option to start anywhere? Id vote for anywhere, would also love the ability to use the pokemon outside of battle, i.e using a Lapras to cross the ocean waters in order to hunt for sea pokemon. Also size and scale could prove a big part, i.e making it so that only birds that are big enough to carry you would be able to fly about, Pigeot and Fearow rather than Pidgey etc.

Gym leaders would require considerable thought but i would like them to be tough so that getting a gym badge is a consdierable challenge (the handheld gym leaders are a bit too easy) and would like them to be beatable through a combination of good tactics and good levels.

Only one of each of the legendary pokemon should be in the game too, there shouldnt be matches where both players have a mewtwo for example, and all should be insanely hard to find and even harder to catch.

Also, there should be other things for non numberchasers to do, i.e beauty contests, races, just general things that you would do in a world of pokemon.
