Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Super Smash Bros. Brawl Official Updates

@Ben
They're like fighters, but not as stong as the regular. Probably. Therefor they're stronger than the goombas (and the others) from Melee. Just like the wireframe fighters are/were

Yeah, I wasn't sure, so I checked, but yeah, Sakurai was the designer of Meteos, the puzzle game for DS.

That game's menu just oozed Smash Bros styled design...and the unique planets and races names were cool. These creatures in Brawl have similar naming...and some of them remind me of Meteos characters...simplistic characters that have obvious characteristics that make them unique...it's Sakurai's style apparently.

We're talking about the guy who probably did quite a few of the wacky monsters in the early Kirby games, so he definitely has some imagination.

Oh, and the characters that make up his name (桜井政博) mean "cherry-well politics-PhD". How awesome is that? So awesome I should've made this my 1000th pos, that's how awesome he is.

Firggin finally online is annoounced. To bad there are no online leader boards or anything like that. That would be very cool.
Still... even the announcement of online play by itself is more than good enough for me.

That isn't an announcement, just a confirmation. Online was announced months ago, even before the Wii launched. It just was just only mentioned in passing by the gaming press.

That's not true at all. The only thing that was announced was "Some Wi-Fi functionality will be implemented." A lot of people jumped to a huge conclusion that this meant online battle modes. It deffinitely did not mean that. This is an announcement, and a huge one at that.

It was. The director confirmed that he would include online, even if he felt it wasn't the best experience. He said that months ago. It's in one of ign's previews for the game. Again, you didn't see it because it got so little coverage.

I hover over every single detail in this game. Link me to anything official confirming online multiplayer.

 I didn't claim it was an official confirmation. It was an interview, and I can't remember the link. It someone on another forum who posted that.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

You have yet to link me to any confirmation at all... official or non.  I'm not going to just accept your opinion on it lol.  If you are going to claim something like "online was announced months ago" then you need to show some proof.  Because apparently you are the only person in the world who saw this supposed announcement.

Bucket Trousers FTW.

These enemies are pretty cool. Hopefully there's some standard Nintendo baddies mixed in. At the same time, I'm glad they're using original characters (and environments), because it will probably let them be a lot more creative and result in better overall design.

And what's up with ROB pulling an R2-D2? Oh, btw, he can also fly!

This is becoming a very good week of updates.

Did anyone catch that updated wallpaper? Of course, it's now out of date again...

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Yeah, more original characters for Smash is definitely a good thing...even though Smash was created as a grouping of classic Nintendo characters, new Smash-specific characters make this game truly unique.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I wonder what R.O.B. Squad stands for.  Really Obvious Badguy Squad?

Robotic Operating Buddy!

@Words of Wisdom,

Ouch. -1000 for fanboy points. Robotic Operating Buddy. They were NES robots that pressed the buttons on the controller in a few games...probably more popular in Japan...I never had one, but they've referenced ROB in a lot of Nintendo games, like Star Fox, Pikmin, Animal Crossing.

He is also a playable racer in Mario Kart DS. He's been a recurring theme ever since his creation. He's a fanservice character for those of us who have been gaming since the 80s.

Other cameos of ROB: A poster in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, a boss in Wario Ware Smooth Moves, on the back of the Viewtiful Joe game box, numerous F-Zero games, etc.
