Forums - Sales Discussion - NA Sales UP---Ps360--OUCH!!

Both the PS3 and the 360 sales below the week before GTA4 release sales. If these numbers hold then it really goes to show 1 title doesnt cause an avalanche of new hardware purchasers. Building out a quality lineup is what sells consoles. Think about that with MGS4 coming out, a title that doesnt sell nearly as well as GTA with nearly 13 million PS3s in customers hands when it releases.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Realistically, how many people do you think are willing to spend $400 for 1 game (when you include the console, game, and tax)? If you wanted other games that have already been released for the PS3 or XBox 360 as well as Grand Theft Auto 4 you probably already bought the system.

As I've said before, there are no "System Sellers" in the way that most fanboys think there are system sellers ...

I think you're wrong. Wii Sports is a system seller. Loads of people just bought a wii to play tennis, boxing, bowling, golf or baseball. This is wonderfull, because after a few months people will look at other games or even other consoles, so it's great for the gaming market.

Currently Playing:

Wii: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort

Xbox360: Fifa 2009, Halflife 2 Episode 2

Want to play:
Wii: Lego Indiana Jones, SMG2
Xbox360: MW2

I am wondering how the sales will be in June especially when MGS4 release.

Isn't June the month when every student/school attender have tests/exams/proofs?

How many parents would let their children buy consoles then? It is the most silly thing you can do..

It's also the beginning of summer. 2nd week of june begins my summer break, but I'm in college, probably sooner for elem and high students

PS3 in NA is suffering from the no bundle situation too.
If you are an informed buyer and know the MGS4 bundle is coming it can be a tough choice to buy the PS3 now.( esp with the 80Gb issue).
There is no such thing in Other however as Sony has been rolling bundle after bundle with every big release there....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I'm not saying that Grand Theft Auto 4 (or other big games) doesn't move hardware ...

What I am saying is that there is an assumption that is made by many fanboys that after a big game is released suddenly the sales of the system's hardware will suddenly explode. Most people who buy a system for games end up buying it because of the games it already has available and the upcomming games that they will also want; this means that any boost due to Grand Theft Auto 4 has already been included in the sales for these platforms for months so you shouldn't expect this massive boost in sales following the release of a game ...

That pretty much sums it up. I'm also in the camp of those who believe that individual games don't move nearly as much hardware as people think. The Grand Theft Auto boost to hardware was VERY significant: PS3 sales were up almost 100% for the week! But that's all it was, a one-time jump in sales with little lasting effect. Anyone who thought this game was going to "change the console wars" was deluding themselves.

Of course, this isn't going to stop Internet fans from whipping themselves into a frenzy over Metal Gear Solid next month, then seeming puzzled when nothing changes in the larger scope of things.

The people I know that purchased a Wii all purchased it for the idea of kids not sitting around playing video games.  It is well at least they are moving argument. I dont know anyone of them that had to have WiiSports, just wanted something that expressed the idea of the Wii.

Thats simply an amazing drop for Ps360. I think GT5:P moved more Ps3s then GTAIV

This is due to the fact that GTA 4 is multiplatform where as MGS4 is exclusive to one platform and will sustain stronger HW sales especially with the bundle out in all regions.
