I will say only that Sony guy sounds more testy than Sony has in quite awhile here.

But it's hardly surprising. It WILL be interesting to see how the hardware moved though.

I think MS won this round. "surprised to see how well GTA IV is selling on Xbox 360 given the history of the franchise. These sales results add GTA IV to a long list of franchises that have switched over from Playstation to find a new home on Xbox 360" beats anything that Sony can say, since Sony 'lost' 4M sales and rising to MS.

4.37 mill(360) vs. 3.29 mill (PS3)

The real winner is R* selling 7.66 million copies in a mere 2 weeks ...

As far as Microsoft vs. SONY goes...
M$ has 57% of sales and SONY has 43% of sales ...

id call it a win-win situation. based on the current install bases and Microsofts advertising + exclusive DLC its obvious that the 360 version was going to sell more. However SONY had the fact that GTA started on Playstation and the crazy and incoreect fanboy view that GTA was a playstation game ( GTAIII/ VC/ SA are on Xbox you know !!)
In the end the sales appear to moving towards a 60:40 split ... I expect that GTA4 will be the first PS3 game to pass 5 million and be the first 360 to approach the 10 million mark ...

ohh and @Renar GTA:SA sold nearly 2 million on Xbox and was quickly replaced with the "GTA:Trilogy Pack" ... which proberly sold 1 million+ ... not to mention that fact that its possible for GTA4 PS3 to outstill GTA3, possibly VC --> higher sales for 360 version dosn't mean less sales for PS3 version provivded R*'s target audience has been expanded

I'm surprised people are surprised at sales and ratio of 360 to PS3.

Consumers just aren't that loyal and its link with Playstation are only strong because PS2 was so dominant that it inevitably got the lions share of sales, GTA games have always been on other platforms and even sold a fair amount on Xbox - so in fact both sets of posturing are just that.

MS is talking bull when it implies this is first time GTA has been cross platform and they've driven a huge change while Sony is overstating probable consumer loyalty.

GTA is simply another cross-platform big hitter (like COD4) and will in fact help both consoles sell more and of course will sell a lot of units for R*.

If anything its yet another nail in the coffin for exclusives - for example with hindsight (and ignorning moneyhatting) would you really want to put out Bioshock on just one HD console, or Haze? Would you really want LO just on one HD console, or GT5?

I think MS and Sony are going to have to really work to get exclusives going forward, either with money or by having a lot of their own development capability, because the truth is the biggest sales are to be found by going multi-platform.

In the end GTA might benefit one console more than the other but I think that its more likely its influence will only really matter as part of a bigger picture - i.e. going forward will either PS3 or 360 see better growth due to their own USPs and exclusives, paid for or 1st party developed or whatever?

By the end of the month the ratio will be 2:1 worldwide, not only America...
