Wow, Europens sure love bluray players...

Blatant trolling, having nothing else to do Xbot??

How is he trolling ? In europe the ps3 was promoted as a "Blu-ray player that also play games"... calling him an xbox is a bigger offense imo.

Anyway, nothing to see here... shipped != sold

I'm sorry man, I respect your site and like what you have done here, I understand sold to retailers != sold to consumers, but if SCEE tells me that they have outsold the 360 (and even if it is sold to retailers), then, unless PS3s are overstocked by European retailers and the 360s are sold out,  I find it hard to believe that the PS3 won't have sold more units to consumers either.

Anyways, the point of this thread was to post on something that David Reeves said, and afterall isn't this the point of this site? Talk about sales?

Did the math real quick and we have PS3 as 4,514,846 in Europe and 360 as 4,829,411 in Europe. Personally I think that the PS3 number is close enough to 5m for the guy to be talking about Shipped and be perfectly within range of these sold to customer numbers, and the difference between PS3 and 360 is also close enough that it could be called either way based on statistics.

In essence, neither of these announcements fall outside of acceptable ranges and both seem to work fine with our current numbers.

 This is how Vgchartz is:

Positive PS3 news is always wrong.

Anti-wii comments of any kind even if true will get you banned by most often DKII

360  is always doing good even though it has been last in sales since Dec.

VGCHARTZ has the PS3 at about 300K behind the 360 in Europe. David Reeves is obviously talking about sold to retail. It is fair to say there are about 300K PS3's at retail but not sold to customer. I would say ioi is pretty much spot on.

I would assume if he means sold to retailers, he has to also be comparing it to 360’s sold to retailers.

Either way, it’s good news for Sony.

Problem with that is, if he says the PS3 shipped 5 mil in Europe and it outsold the 360 in Europe, then that means that Microsoft has shipped, at the most, 4.99 million units. Now I don't live in Europe but I doubt that the 360 is in short supply there.

"We outsold the X360 in Europe" (...in the time frame since PS3 launch that is)

"We sold more than 5 million units" (...to retail that is)

Any more questions?

If you take into account...

1. He will be referring to Shipped not sold
2. He is only looking at Europe
3. VGC Others = a ton of other places beyond Europe

Then all is fine in the world.

Check this graph...

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=Europe&cons2=PS3&reg2=Europe&cons3=X360&reg3=Europe&weeks=130

VGC is about 500k less than what he stated. Now, that is also probably too close for what is actually sitting in shelves and so on, but that has to do with the the fact that VGC is weekly and that data is probably rounded and older.

VGC Europe Numbers

PS3 4.5 Mil (+200k ish for this week =4.7 Mil)
5 Mil shipped seem spot on

X360 4.8 Mil (+150k ish for this week = just short of 5 Mil
Maybe slightly overtracked, but not by much.
