Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii's "Big Hitters" Averaging low 80's in Reviews..No One Cares?

There was no pre-tense that those games were ever going to be amazing review scorers. Also, they are going to sell amazing anyway so why would any Wii fan be fretting over it? Heavenly Sword was proported (by Sony fans) to save the system from it's lacklaster sales which it failed to do dispite decent reviews.

I also don't think Nintendo has gotten an easy ride, SSBB scored incredibly well because it's an incredibly balanced and polished game with a truly ridiculous amount of content. SMG, MP3 were also excellent games by any standard.

Personally, Mario Kart is a bit disappointing to me, I expected better and I don't think it deserves a better score (but it is fun). As for WiiFit - I could almost care less what video game reviewers have to say, I want to see what fitness experts have to say about it. Those are the reviews that matter.

The important thing about "big hitters" is that they sell well. And this will be the case for Mario and apparently Wii fit. Good reviews are just icing on the cake.

Don't forget Nintendo is supposedly getting the latest installment of Animal Crossing out before Christmas, and given how well the previous two were received, I'd expect it to do QUITE well, especially with an enhanced online component over the DS version.

I can't comment on WiiFit, it's not my type of game, but Mario Kart IS quite fun(quite a bit more enjoyable than I felt Heavenly Sword was, actually), especially online. Heck, most Wii games that sell well aren't BAD games, they just aren't typical hardcore-gamer titles. The true shovelware usually ends up festering in a pool at the bottom of the budget bin not long after launch.

remains that some people see the wii for what it is and review accordingly while other still hate it and ad that to the review score

I just think its funny that Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii both average under 83% (meaning they are about as good as Heavenly Sword) yet no one seems to care. Is Wii Fit the last big hitter announced this year for the Wii?

I mean they will probably still sell, but it will just prove once again that the Wii sells any crappy game with Wii or Mario infront of it. Im happy to see that reviewers have stopped giving Nintendo a free pass on games and actually started judging by quality over hype. Is there anything left on the Wii for the rest of the year thats already announced or are they going to pull and EA and release Mario____08 with updated rosters?

They gotta have something big planned for E3, but if they announce Wii cooking or anything of that nature I think im going to piss myself from laughter, lol.

This is an oxymoron, there are very few if any Wii games and even less Mario games that are "crappy" they are in fact mostly all incredibly fun and awesome games.

Nintendo games tend to get reviewed poorly because they aren't the "hardcore" games that these "professional" reviewing people think are good. Believe me (and the incredible sales we've seen and will continue to see) WiiFit, MKWii, Brawl, and almost every game with mario in it or wii in front of it are good games regardless of what the so called reviewers say.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Is spring gathering all the trolls to come out?

I wonder what you are on when you are saying that reviewers give Nintendo a free pass.

there are very few if any Wii games ... that are "crappy"

LOL the irony in this forum is getting thicker. How about a round of /dramatic music ninjabread man.

.......hold on......*goes super saiyan*
So, you think GTA4's reviews WEREN'T based on hype?......OK. Wii games are crappy.....fair enough.....'big hitters suck', well thats a new one.....Nintendo games get review passes.......OK, enough of this bufoonery! MKWii will sell millions, Regardless of ratings, which come at a time where GTA is being over-praised, with 7-page reviews (IGN's Hillary). Wii Fit is not even a real 'game' so to speak. You can't rate it accurately. WiiFit with Gears of War graphics? That's probably what you want. People were rude towards Halo 3 cause it was Halo 2 w/ gloss paint. Do I think so, NO. However, I'm not telling people off about it.

Are you even AWARE of the Wii's upcoming lineup? With this post, probably not, but don't be so quick to judge Wii games as visual BARF. Reasoning won't change a thing so let me say FACTS on what is coming up for the Little White Toilet That Can't (is that what they call em' nowadays?) Rygar, Disaster, Monster H.3, O yea, 50+ 'small' WiiWare games upon its launch in a few weeks.

I'm done, gonna go watch some General Hospital.......

I would be far more worried if I didn't find them so fun... review scores are just numbers that after a while you realise are pretty meaningless.

People put way to much importance on review scores.
