Forums - Nintendo Discussion - It's that time again... Is the Wii shortage coming to an end?

I don't think the Wii shortage is or will be coming to an end any time soon. Nintendo has most definately increased production and will be releasing any stockpiles they have for the dual launches of Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit in Europe and NA (look at the NA numbers this week and Europe numbers for the past few weeks).
Nintendo is a freaking smart company, they don't want to increase production too much just to see the Wii loose popularity and then have a bunch of useless factories. However unlikely that scenarios is the fact of the matter is Nintendo is fine with the situation at hand, they are selling Wiis like crazy, outselling their competitors and making craploads of cash, why change that too much?

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Yea, they still sell out at my job, but not as fast as they used to. Sometimes, it can take three to four hours.

I really don't know, the supply issues are definately sorted in Japan, Eu/Others seems fine as well but the NA market still has some issues in some areas (the more rural ones form what I hear).

This site might help too:

You can see that it is primarily still sold out. Although, it looks like a few bundles might be available (from Toy's R Us and Circuit city at the moment)

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

mummelmann, it is not the rural areas that is the problem. it is the suburban/urban areas that is the problem with the sales

I went to go get Mario Kart Wii Sunday.
They had some Wii's in stock, never seen that before.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

If there is any relief for the Wii shortages it wont be long, WiiFit will double demand.

Also, I beleive Nintendo could have shipped as many as 600k this week(we will see)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Yes they did. In December they didn't go under 600K WW.  The red line is NA Wii only.
