Haven't played any of those yet. Maybe a week after Christmas I'll be able to vote on this poll.

My favorite, Fantasy General II, is sadly missing, so let's have a look at the other choices...

Tough choice. I choose Fire Emblem, but it's just a hair above Slay the Spire.

Fire Emblem all the way, Link's Awakening, Astral Chain, and Resident Evil 2 after that.

My real favorite, though, is Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition. Yes, I realize that the original game was released last year, but the Switch version released this past September is stuffed with an ass-ton of new content plus the Symphonic Suite soundtrack.. The Definitive Edition sits at a 91% aggregate on Metacritic. (The PS4 and PC versions released last year were 86% and 80% respectively.)

Super Mario Maker 2 and Devil May Cry 5.

One unleashed a love of level editing and 2D Mario I didn't know I had.

The other is the best action game I've played since Bayonetta 2.

Astral Chain is great but I'm gonna go with Sekiro on this one. My personal GOTY.

Disco Elysium - while I don't like RPGs to be THAT much narrative focused, its world and characters, combined with exceptional writing and good attribute/skills system, completely captivated me - another year for very unique experience (last year with Frostpunk).

Link's Awakening because it is, well, Link's Awakening. That looks better than before.

Resident Evil 2, Control, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Devil May Cry 5, some Switch titles too... it was a pretty good year in my opinion, specially after a barebones 2018.
